Yeah, wouldn't want to be out there...

You think it will move up the bay?

Wave height at Bouy 4147 yesterday was 29.5' with 12 sec intervals. That's some serious waveage!

well I am here in wilmington NC. which is on the atlantic coast and all we got was a little rain and the highest of about 20mph winds. Hope all of upper north coasts make it out the same.

hurricane is supposedly passing by now. Nothing happening on shore, about 20 miles in from the coast.
Remember, the marine forecasts are "out 20 nautical miles." Very different out there.

If you look at the news, you will see photos of a twisted-up fishing pier on Hatteras. Most of that damage was from a previous storm.

Nothing to see here, folks, move on.

I wouldn't be too quick to blow this off. I have several friends that live on Hatteras Island. Talked to one about 1/2 hour ago.

Sustained winds of 45+ mph, with gusts to 65+ mph since 11pm last night. Two feet or more of water covering Rt. 12. It's my understanding that Hatteras Village is taking a pretty good beating.

This is from the inlet bouy.

well that's typical for a small storm and won't cause any major damage, at least not for people who know how to deal with it. And what you are describing is the worst of it. So while no one wants to have to deal with winds like that and brief overwash it's just life on the coast. Everyone was lucky (so far) with this storm.

Of course the "news" has to make it more dramatic; that's what they think their job is now.

Talked to my friend an hour or so ago. Not much damage. Lots of water and a few trees here and but nothing too bad.

I would be interested to see how much water was on the road on Pea Island. Doesn't take much to blow out a dune around there. We fished down there last January. Blowing NE 10-15 for the 3 days we where there. Had to wait for the tide to go out to get to the Bonner. Even then it was up to my running boards at a couple of spots.

that's the difference: a three day (6 tide) northeaster or a one-tide hurricane. Pea island may have had water one cycle. It's natural (and by the way, the dunes aren't).
Anything up your way? Nothing here
