Re: young tinkerer
Dont try this at home!!! I was gonna start a new post but i guess this one works. The same friend I reflected on in the Stupid mechanical blunders thread.(the welder). 14 or 16 Y.O.another tinkerer. His dad offered him $100 to remove a very large whiteoak stump from their front yard. He and dad had used a backhoe for 8 hrs and were having trouble w the roots/hard Red clay and rocks.I guess he thought Doug would whittle away at it till it was gone. But he had better Ideas.unsupervised,He drilled a 1" hole in the middle of the stump,w/a brace and bit and welded extensions on the bit, until he had drilled very deeply into the stump.then he got the trusty black powder and poured it down the hole.just enough.he then added a fuse, filled the hole w sand, and packed clay at the top.he lit the fuse and ran back.(He used a little to much powder).the blast blew out his and some of his neighbors across the streets front windows!and the falling debris damaged 4 or 5 roofs!Nobody was hurt thank God,and the stump was about gone!! He spent the rest of his summer fixing the damage to the homes.needless to say his dad was very specific w his requests for his son to help him after that!!!
