Your Opinion on a 25hp needed

looking to buy a used dependable 25hp short shaft outboard from 1970-1980 in your opinion what manufacture has the most dependable motor out there? Parts available, easy to start, idles smooth are some of the things that come to mind. Right now I have a 1973 Evinrude 18 hp which is a good runner but I'm looking for more top end speed.<br />Thanks for your input

River Trapper<br /><br />I'd stick with the Johnny/Rudes in those years and if you get a sound engine to begin with, it should provide relatively trouble free service for years. You don't hear of too much trouble with those little engines anyway. Plus, as you know, there are tons of parts available for them and will continue to be. That's just my thoughts...
