I'm about to purchase a 2301 seaswirl striper walkaround and i'm curious what you experienced guys think of the price. The boat is actually 24 feet with hard top,f225 yamaha with 500 hours. It has low end garmin electronics full curtains including complete cockpit cover that snaps on.It will be surveyed and the motor will get a pre purchase check by a certified yahama tech.I sea trialed it and it ran flawlessly. Price is 26,000

What do you think that boat went for new?

The NADA avg. retail on the base model is $19K. If the boat has a hardtop, full enclosure and the typical fishing package the price could easily jump to the asking price.

If the boat is in great shape the guy will get his asking price. It's just going to take time.

Anew 2301 walkaround with af225 yahama and a trailer is around 50,000 some are quite a bit more.

dingbat, It's just going to take time. true, in the time he may be still making payments, they add up, which he could have in his pocket, selling lower.

Rick,

You may never have seen a boat like this for $19k, but there hasn't been a buyer's market like this in a long time, either. It isn't just depressed, it's pretty well gone belly up. All that's left is the funeral.

At the end of the day it all depends on what the boat is worth to you, but I also think the price is too high. But, you won't get a good deal on any boat unless you're mentally prepared to lose it. You have to be able to walk away and keep looking while the owner thinks it over. If he just recently put it on the market it's gonna take awhile for him to realize that nobody else is shopping. Your call.

Rest assured, however, that even if you got that boat for $19k and it's perfect, somebody's gonna tell you that you paid too much for it :)

I agree and when spring comes, there'll be more boats on the market which equate to more selections.
The economy is so bad that I feel for those who has boat monthly payments and storage fees because they aren't allowed to park their boats at their homes. Sad, very sad

I agree, Seon. I was at the NY boat show last month and I felt lousy for all those who make a living in the boating industry.

But, no matter what each of us does for a living, or what we buy for ourselves, there's always the chance that it's all gonna go to s**t. It's the nature of capitalism.

Of course, another alternative is to live within a socioeconomic structure that guarantees you'll have nothing to lose in the first place.

Now I'm depressing myself... TGIF

I think some would argue that with the recent bailout provisions put in place by Congress and the President, true capitalism left the room about six months ago. Good to see that Citi told certain Congressmen to pound sand when they asked Citi to write down the value of oodles of mortgages to make it easier for some to make payments. Don't mean to hijack the thread, but it just irks me that I - mr. conservative live within my means average consumer - have to watch the risk-takers enjoy benefits we don't get. I've been trying to teach my kids how to evaluate situations and opportunities with the old "risk/reward" scenario. I think I need to change that to the "risk/sometimes always reward" ratio.

I think it is probably a fair price if the boat is clean. If it comes with a trailer, it is a very fair price. I have the 2101 and am very happy with my boat. Check out seastriper. com, it is a sight for just seaswirl owners. you will hear the good, bad and ugly about the boat and the manufacturer

Re: your thoughts on price of boat

In a normal market, I would guess that $26,000 isn't unreasonable for that boat. In the current market, I would say that the seller will be lucky to get it.

From your perspective as a buyer, you just have to decide how badly you want the boat. If you can afford the asking price, and want to be sure you get it, I would bid about $24,000 and see what happens. My guess is that you'll get the boat. If, on the other hand, you want to hold out for less money, you might still be OK.

I'm stingy and tend to hold out for a price that I want, but am also willing to walk away from deals with no regrets. I have been looking for a trihull with a cuddy for about 5 years and have walked away from numerous deals because I wanted a "fixer-upper" and didn't want to pay much. Last month I found the right boat and the right deal. The boat is now sitting in my driveway and I am assembling rebuild materials a bit at a time.

In the end, its about what you want in the boat, what you want to spend, and how willing you are to either make the deal or walk away in search of a better one.
