Your trolling motor top speed?

Just curious - what do you guys get for top speed with your bow mount? With no wind, I get about 4.5km/h on GPS full tilt with a 40lb motor on 14' aluminum. To me that seems slow for such a light boat. But curious what the rest of you guys see when using it to move quick across the water at times. Let me know your speed and boat size.

Re: Your trolling motor top speed?

Just yesterday, instead of starting the motor to shoot across a gap, just used the trolling motor. There was only a slight tailwind breeze and GPS and water speed indicated 4mph. This is with a 45lb thrust MG wireless at full speed, on an 14' Starcraft, not one of those light cartopper alum boats.

I mainly use the trolling motor for positioning, not for "real" trolling or distance travel. The outboard is for that.

I have a powerdrive V2 40lb. Mine would be a cartopper aluminum but I have a carpeted wood floor in it, so maybe the how thing weighs 350lbs everything included. Did you have the back motor in the water when you were moving? I figured mine would at least do 4mph, not 4km/h

If you want to go faster lift your main motor out of the water for less drag.

I had the motor in the water while I tested this, I'll give that a shot but would be suprised if it made a signifigant difference. Will let you know. :)

This was with motor down (40hp), 3 adults, 2 batteries, lots of gear, and about 3gal of gas. The boat has a wood deck the length of the boat, and a front and back casting deck. To be honest, this is the first time I ever looked to see how fast I was going with the trolling motor.
