I know your saposta put your 2015 sticker on your boat as soon as you get it. I have all of 2014 left and we have to put on 2015 on now.....and some people put there boats away in Nov. so the 2015 sticker you never use ...... it just doesn't make sense to me, just venting that's all . I'll never figure out DMV.

Sounds like a Connecticut specific problem. They don't do things that way here!

In MN they are good for 3 years and you don't buy a new one until the year it expires.

Edit - 3 years ;)

NJ they assign a different color every year however the month it expires tends to be the month you originally register.

Doesn't the sticker expire on April 30 every year? So your 2014 sticker is now dead a week, right?

Re: yr. sticker on your boat

The process in other states other than that of the OP is completely irrelevant.

The date on the CT. sticker is for the date the registration EXPIRES. The CT Registration goes from May 1st, to April 30th. The 2014 boating season registration reads: "Expires 04/30/2015".

You don't need to put your sticker on as soon as you get it. You're registration needs to match your sticker, and both need to be in an UNexpired state. This means you don't need to put your 2014 Season sticker on until 04/30/14 (technically it shoudl be May 1, but I'm not goingto hae that argument with some leo who says ("It says Expires TODAY").

So, if you happened to buy a boat late in the year and registered it for the 2013 boating season, then the sticker would say 2014, however that means you registered a boat for the 2013 boating season and didn't use it.

What you are describing makes no sense. I don't really see anything to vent about.

In Tn, the date you originally register it will be the expiration date.
We can register ours for 12 or 3 years. The price is based on the size.
Mine is 25 for one year, 48 for two, and 71 for three.

Basically, your 2014 sticker was for the 2013 season and your 2015 sticker is for the 2014 season. Put your 2015 sticker on now and it will be good until 4/30/2015. It's just the way it works....... You're not losing out on anything.

In Florida, they expire the last day of your birth month each year.

In Kansas it's based on the day you register, and is good for 3 years from that date. I register in OK and there it is June to June every year.

Sure but the bummer is my trailer is a yearly renewable here in MN. They won't give me a lifetime like so many other trailers that carry small boats.

Wanna hear a silly one? All vehicles, trailer, boats, etc. expire on your birthday here in GA, just like your DL.

Yup. My Bayliner trailer has a lifetime on it and the Malibu trailer is something like $14 yearly

Michigan went to perm plates for all trailers, when we were in trouble $$. Everyone shelled out for these new $75.00 lifetime plates. Now they receive 0 plate revenue and are singing the blues, but it fixed the problem they had for that gov., but they created an even bigger one now, only in America eh?

Our boat regs. are every 3 years here too.

Just wait, sooner or later, someone will come up with the idea that every trailer should have a safety inspection each year and, of course, the state will have to charge a fee for that. When it comes to jacking the taxpayers out of their dollars, the imaginations and schemes of the politicians and bureaucrats are totally unlimited.
