so I guess every state is different....CT is messed up anyway. how does your state work.(VA)
Wanna hear a silly one? All vehicles, trailer, boats, etc. expire on your birthday here in GA, just like your DL.
it expires april 1st of the year on the sticker. if you bought it in WV then all you need is the signed WV title. otherwise you need a notarized bill of sale and said chicken legs, elvis and 1st born. I found out when I bought my boat in VA and waited till a year later to go to the dmv, by which time had lost track of the seller:facepalm:. luckily the notary at work needed her car fixedJust got the new decal for mine today. Boats and trailers here in WV are registered for 3 years. Boats are good until April 15th or 30th. All boats registered here expire at the same time. Everyone, who registers a boat from now until 2017 will receive the same 2017 decal I have, but they will pay a prorated price. I had fun at the DMV today. Bought this boat in Ohio, and had to title/register it in WV. The differences between the 2 states are crazy. In WV, I can sign a car, boat, trailer etc... title and hand it to the new owner. He takes it to the DMV and they switch it to his name. Ohio requires 2 notary stamps on their titles. Ohio does not require a trailer title, WV does. Have to have the OH registration to get a WV title. Well, that and 3 legs from a left handed chicken and an autographed picture of Elvis or something. I hate to say this but I think it would be nice if all states adopted the same system for this stuff.
Sure but the bummer is my trailer is a yearly renewable here in MN. They won't give me a lifetime like so many other trailers that carry small boats.
I believe 4,000 lbs gross carrying weight is the cut off, which puts 18' boats right on the line, of course it depends which box is checked by the dealer when sold new. I've owned a 19' fiberglass boat on a lifetime license trailers and an 18' fiberglass boat on yearly license plate trailers.
I too have tried to get it switched with no luck.
The yearly trailer tax is about $10 but the "fees" they pile on for it are another 6 or something, so the taxes on the trailer tax are 60%.(sorry for the mini rant)
