I have a 1995 with an Alpha Gen II I believe. I used to have a Yamaha I/O and it had more grease fittings than the ALPHA. I want to make sure I am not missing any of them. These are the ones that I have found.

Outdrive unit:
1 on each side of the trim pivot.
1 on the starboard side close to the transom. I believe it is for the gimbal bearing.
1 on the output shaft from the motor to the drive unit (inside the boat and a B^%*h to get too)

I found none for the steering system. It all looks sealed. and I am curious why there are no fittings for the pivots on the outdrive for steering?? Thanks.

Tommays,

what kind of grease should we use on these fittings? Can I use the same marine bearing grease that I use for my trailer bearings?

Thanks!

Tom

Re: Zerk fittings

you have to use the right grease in the right place

spline grease on the splines hard to get to but you should

gimble bearing grease on gimble bearing best when drive is pulled but any is better than none

and 2-4-C on the pivots prop shaft ect

at this point i am up to 5 grease guns and different greases but its much cheaper than doing a repiar from lack of or the worng kind of grease

once you have some of each you will see that they are all compleatly different if you buy the 11 dollar wally world grease gun its not to bad

and the total cost is less than 30 minutes of labor at my local merc dealer

tommays
