Zinc Chromate Primer Question

I have always used the Tempo brand but its no longer made.I bought the Moeller brand. After 3 light coats it has dried with a rough finish.
No info i can find says this primer is sandable..
Anyone run into this? Should i sand the primer or paint then wet sand?

Thought about going over the primer with 500 grit but do not want to mess it up and have to sand to bare aluminum again...

Just wondered if anyone has ran into this before.I thought all primer could be sanded but no mention on this stuff.

Thanks TD. I will try a small area and see what it does.
I spent 4 days hand sanding the lower down to bare metal and don't want to start over...:)

When i bought that lower last year i did a quick paint job over the Rude blue.
It was starting to chip off in areas so this time i want it right..

This new primer has a fuzzy type feel to it.Must have more solids than the Tempo brand did.

I've only used ZC on trailers and never had the need to sand.
Nasty stuff - make sure you have a good respirator.

I hear ya.
Do yourself a favor...at least go to the hardware store and spend two dollars on a face mask.

I use the 3M 6000 series respriatiors anytime I spray anything, you can get cartridges for organic vapor fumes like paints, resins etc and they also have particle pre-filter that fits into them, or just for heavy particle use like grinding 'glass, you can put a P100 filter on the same respirator. They are available at West Marine and Home Depot, save your health and get one.

Thanks Lou,
I really need one. I got to run to Home depot this weekend anyway.I will check them out.

The primer sanded ok.Went over it very light with 500 grit.
Got my first coat of Johnson white on it. Its baking at about 100* right now.
