How about a narrow wire wheel, radial type instead of cup type, run it along the length of the 'corduroy' grooves?

As long as it doesn't move. Once it moves (wheels), you have to take velocity and mass into it to see if coming to an instant stop...

Maybe soften the ridges with MEK? You'd be in the wee bit aggressive camp of chemicals though.
