Help me again PW, we can't get a group of people in Iraq to agree not to kill themselves (impossible! your words), but we can get the entire world to agree to lower the temperature of the globe. Let me guess, government regulations.

It's called leadership. And initially it will cost money. Probably lots of it. We have to first show them that it can be done (reducing carbon usage here) and then develop technology to make it feasible. It will serve many goals--first of all developing the technology will bolster us economically thru exporting it, perhaps even thru subsidies to make it affordable.

And we have to show how to reclaim and reforest lands that have been stripped of their trees in third world countries.

And if we can reduce the need for oil specifically worldwide, we can start to neutralize the impact of oil sales that finance our enemies---perhaps even help them to develop industries that create wealth thru something other than drilling oil wells, and loading tankers.

Now it won't happen overnight, of course, or without lots of difficulty, but eventually, if the goals are properly set, it could be a net win for everyone.

And at least if we start soon, we have time to implement some of the changes slowly so as to learn what works and doesn't work and why.

But it is going to take leadership on a worldwide basis. There is already much of the world on board now, especially Europe, so we don't have to do it all, all we really need to show is we are willing to cooperate

Your Ideals here are very good PW2, it is just the unstated methods, (on this post), that are a great corncern. First the science is NOT SETTLED regardless of how many times Algore wispers or shouts it. The planet seems to be warming now, the slope of the warming curve is not yet known due to the very short time it's been happenin' the li'l ice age ended in the early ta mid 1800s, (relative to the age of the planet say 4.5 Bill years + or -). We do know there is THE LARGEST VARIABLE: ol' Sol, that we do not know very much about yet, still studyin'. The LIbs want us to forget science and buy their politics. ROW your boats, WALK or RIDE your BIKES, n' let China n' India use all the oil, coal, et al. while we spend much more money to get the energy we need. 'course we CAN'T use Nuke power. Why? Lib politics 'course. Circular Lib arguments stress the ol' brain cell to the limit. Libs want to force Mommy Government to interfere, n' force us to pay much more for our energy for all of the lofty reasons stated in your post. This dog don't hunt. Respectfully JR

Hey JR, I like your change in style. :p

Change ya say? Hmmm. Me thinks I was comin' across a li'l arogant, n' condasendin' n' all, (still tryin' ta work at it). Ray spanked me real hard, n' so have others. I really do try ta learn Crunch, (that's part o' critical thinkin' that I know you know too). I do like ta talk politics without getin' the SUV keyed. I luv ta learn from the debate, (as I have from you, but I probably learn more from smart Libs who I knock heads with on this forum then fellow Cornservatives). If I p*** 'em off too much they will flame me n' stop teachin' me the things I like ta learn. I don't want iboats to pad this place too much. So a li'l humility is in order. Thanks for the compliment. JR

OK. I am changing my postition. Based on one day's data I can catetgorically guarantee that:

a) the planet has warmed (for at least one day) and

b) It is man's fault because I don't ever recall it being this warm on February 17th and there are more people alive today than the last February 17th . . .

That is patently untrue.

Oh really BB? Jus' what is PATENTLY untrue about my statement? How many Nuke power plants have been built since ol' GPU's Three Mile Island got lots o' Lib undies in a big bunch? Eh? Musta missed ol' Algore on that one BB. Please educate this overstressed brain cell that's causing me ta make PATENTLY untrue statements. Thanks for your reply, as I don't wanna be either patently untrue or jus' untrue, (is that the same as Liar Liar pants on fire) BB? JR

What a juvenile response.

I have been closely affiliated with a power generator and I know they have received licenses from NRC for 4 reactors since TMI.

That's me BB: JUVENILE. Wana key the SUV? What do NRC licenses prove? Libs protested n' killed Nuke power in the USA. That is a fact: and certianly NOT PATENTLY UNTRUE. Ever heard of WPPSS there BB? You challanged my post, and called it "juvenile", when I asked you to back it up. If we were standing in front of each other we could sort things out real quickly. Since we're not, just step up and prove that LIBS did not kill Nuke power in the USA. One way would be to cite some recent Nuke power plants that have come online, (last few years would due just fine). Then we can walk away, and I'll learn where I was wrong, n' you can gloat that you are sooooo smart. Screw 'licenses', n' fact stick 'em somewhere where it's not sunny. JR

Maybe it's the gas of the gnats that is causing GW?8)

8)8)8)8) I think it's Rubber's Gas!

I think al bore needs to investigate both of these, then blow some more smoke up our arses, make a movie that show how we must destroy the gnats that our going to kill us all in 20 years. Then the tree hugging libs can change their minds, again and again and again and once again be WRONG!

Top Scientist Seeks Halt on Coal Plants

<<WASHINGTON (AP) -- One of the world's top scientists on global warming called for the United States to stop building coal-fired power plants and eventually bulldoze older generators that don't capture and bury greenhouse gases.>>

<<In prepared remarks to be delivered at the National Press Club Monday afternoon, NASA scientist James Hansen, who has been one of the earliest top researchers to warn the world about global warming, will call for a moratorium on building new coal-fired power plants.>>

<<Coal provides about half of the United States' electricity, according to the Department of Energy.>>
