Then why is it that you always see a Chevy pulling the Ford off the beach or out of the mud, and not the other way around?

The first 4X4 pick-up was not produced by Ford, but by Willys Overland in 1947!

The first 4-door pick-up was first produced by Chevy in 1935!

How can these be considered milestones when other manufacturers did them first?

Kenny

All that history and they still can't beat a GM product!

Check JD Power & Associates records of vehicle longevity, and you will see that the GM products hands down beat all other manufacturers.

GMC's and Chevy's from the 1960's are still on the job long after the others have met their demise!

Kenny

Combine the sales of GMC and Chevy, and they are the best selling trucks in the world!

Kenny

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

Just my .02 worth here.
I have both, a F-250 Diesel, and a Silverado Diesel, and I will have to say that the Ford would pull the Chevy in half.

Another thing is there are 7 years difference in them, and the Ford still has the better body.
No rust, no where.

Just my opnion cause I own and drive both of them.

In MHO, after 1994, when Ford quit making the IDI diesel, they screwed up.

My IDI with Turbo gets a lot better fuel mileage than the DI motors do.

Yep would agree there. The old GM 6.5 ltr diesel was a big 'ol piece of crap. But today the new Duramax is a different story. It is as good a motor as anything Ford has including their new 6.0 ltr.

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

That's not what I am saying TexSkeeter and my 6.5 is not a piece of crap, as you say.
It has 130,000 miles on it, still gets 18 to 22 MPG and it don't have a rattle to it no where.

It ain't the motor, it's the people that drive them that makes them crap.

None of them will stand up to abuse all the time without something giving.

I will agree that they messed up when they came out with the 6.0. Big mistake.

Again, just MHO.

Yea, you can pick and chose the best and compare it to the worst, but that doesn't give you an overall! I will admit that I am prejudice - born and raised in a GM dealership - but I know what we had going through the shop and the used car lot. I am hard pressed to own anything but a GM.

During my stays in Ghana, GM's are too expensive, so have to go with the Korean stuff. There I really miss my '76 Firebird T/A (50th anniv. edition - original Smokey and the Bandit mobile), Bonneville and Yukon Denali!

That is not what I was saying aspeck, just what my experience is with them.

I like them both, but then again I take care of my stuff better than some do also. That makes a big difference.

SBN, was really meaning to point out that I was prejudiced, not intending a big pick on you. ANd you make a good point, with most cars it is about maintenance. If you take care of them, they will usually take care of you (unless they are a Ford :D , then you are just plain out of luck ;) ).

No aspeck, no one picks on me. :D

There again, my Ford has never let me down yet and neither has my Chevy. ;)

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

Well, we burnt out 2 transmissions in my cousins F150 pulling my boat 3 miles back and forth to the ramp. This is no cheap 150 either; it cost like $30K - it really is junk. Does all sorts of strange things like the doors locking an unlocking randomly. All sorts of electrical problems.

So, I went out and bought a 97 GMC 2500 HD Turbo Diesel with 100K on it because I was moving the boat to my house a lot further away from the ramp and Ford wasn't going to pay for any more transmissions in his truck.

THE GMC runs great and tows the boat like it wasn't even there. It's a terrific truck.
Based onthe Ford experience I would not buy one unless it was a big 350 Diesel.

Around here you see a lot more old Chevys and GMCs than you do Fords and forget Dodges.

I drove all the brand new GMs, Fords and Dodges. The GMs with quadrasteer and one of the best vehicles I have ever driven. The Fords were ok and forget the Dodges.

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

I don't want to sound like a Ford basher here, but you could not pay me enough to purchase another Ford.

I have has 2 in my life time and they are quite possibly the worst 2 vehicles I have ever owned.

Had a '73 Boss 302 Mustang, that would never start when cold in the morning, even in the summer, and I had to get my mother out of bed to help push-start the car so I could go to school.

My other Ford was a F-150.

It was only 2 years old when I bought it, and right from day one, all I did was dump my whole paycheck into it every week just to keep running to get to work.

After that, I vowed to never buy another Ford, and I am sticking to it.

Now, if I have a choice between one of those Toyota's or Nissan's, I'd buy a Ford!

Kenny

So....you like chev a, Thats a girls truck. :p

Kenny, you have to read the post again.
Some of these dates are Ford milestones, They weren't the first 4x4. 1959 was the year the
first factory built 4x4 in F-series was produced

1965 Ford introduced its first 4 dr pickup.

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

I never saw a 1973 Boss 302 Mustang!!

If I remember correctly the last year the Boss 302 was made was 1970. In 1971 Ford made a Boss 351 Mustang, then in 1973 they called it a HO 351. The gas crunch came around, insurance rose and compression ratio dropped. By 1973 the muscle car era was history. No such animal as a 1973 Boss 302.

Just my .02

Gold Bear ;)

Hey Gold Bear,

Beg to differ from you, but Ford DID build a Boss 302 Mustang in '73, although in limited #'s.

That was why I bought the car in the first place.

I thought I was going to have a real collector there!

Sold the car to a freind in the early '80's, and he still had it couple of years ago, when he moved it to Seattle when he moved there.

To the last time I saw it, it still had a hard time getting started when it was cold!

Kenny

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

Well NOSLEEP,

Whats the point in advertising milestones when they where years behind the competition.

Ford has always made it a point to list their milestones in order to sell cars and trucks, just goes to show how gullible the public is, when they get won over by false claims!

Kenny

1971 through 1973 (REALLY Big!)
Boss 429 and Boss 302 are replaced by Boss 351
429 is normal engine option
Shelby Mustangs are no more
The age of the classic Mustang is drawn to an end (sniff)
Re: Ford Tough Trucks

Toyota builds a better truck the GM or Ford. Better longevity, lower maintainence, higher resale value.....I have owned more than 30 vehicles in my life, and GM, Ford and Mopar have all worked hard to permanently loose my business.
