Toyota is sliding on name only, at least on their compact/midsize pickups.. they're noisy junky and ride like they have no suspension to speak of.

I'll put the quality of my 1994 S-10 with 150k miles on it up against the quality of a brand new 2004 Toyota P/U any day.

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

Here is what the Japanese know about building trucks: Nothing! How many old foreign P/Us do you even see on the road? Answer: None. How many do you see pulling real loads? Answer: None. How many do you see at contruction sites where the vehicles work for a living? Answer: None. So what are the reasons for being a foreign truck? Answer: None except the gullable people who still think anything made by the Japanese is built better than anything made in the good old USA.

Yes, just look around and see like Ralph says.
Here in Alberta I make my living selling Ford
trucks to Seismic workers, Oil Field hot shots,
Ranchers, people that depend on their Off road
vehicles for their livelihood. I can tell you that
you wouldn't be able to convince these hard working
folks, that their trucks suck. They just dont
drive into the office everyday, they work them
hard.
And buy the way. Ford is the #1 selling truck in
Canada for the past 37 years. No small feat for
any truck. As for mustangs that wont start when
its cool. We run our vehicles here at more than
-30 below for weeks at a time. No problem, get
a Ford! :D

Hey, SeaFoam thanks for your comments. Gee don't we all feel stupid now? I'm glad we have adults like you around to set us straight.

Hey, nothing wrong with Fords. I was just very disappointed in the performace of a $30K F150 when it came time to do so real work. Sure it pretty though :D

hey seafoam, i don't compare pushrod length, not cool.---kinda freaky suggestion man---will compare my lovlies attributes ifin were discussin attributes (yep, am braggin on my honey, my lovely bride herself)
anyhoo and however, best AMERICAN autos i've owned were ford wagons. old beaters that would sit all winter under six feet of snow and fire after a few pumps in spring.-- 351 cleve.-2 or 390 ci in '64,4 bbl, good reliable beater junk, cheapo cages. one a '64, other a '79.--64 a galaxy, 79 a basic ltd.
the 79 took my honey and meself on our honey moon, sheet metal floor board patches and all, ugly green paint, sears tires, home made y pipe on our honey moon wandering northern wisconsin. aint two beaters i've ever owned that i would always count on (specialy the 79)

been through a few "autos" since then (had a j4 amc quadratrac for awhile), both cars and pu, nothing, to will be equal to a Ford. gotta sissyfied styled bare bones f150 now that is, as usual, day in and day ou stone reliable ;)

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

been a Ford man all my driving career.

I built my own V8 Pinto to my current 2001 Ford Ranger.

Never had a problem with any of them.

I have a '76 F150 4x4 fully rebuilt. Runs great and will never let you down.

As with any manufactureer, they all have their lemons. Some of us get them, and some of us don't.

I'll probably always have a Ford. Stick with what you know and trust.

H.

Yea, who's doing the arguing?
I just was stating facts on vehicles I had/have.

I have had them all from '49 Dodge with suicide doors, to '57 Nomad wagons, to '51 Ford truck and they have all been good to me.

And oh yea, the '57 De-soto which was an automatic or standard either one.
It was cool.

$25,000-$45,000 for a new truck... Yeah Right!

I've run the same second hand Chevy 1500 for 12 years now.... Nearing 300K miles .... 2nd engine, 3rd trans... Current trans (th350) has 75K miles that I put on it and came straight out of the junkyard with who knows how many miles before me......

Here in the next little while, I'm planning on tearing the entire truck down to the frame, give evreything the once over, new engine and rebuild the th350 trans, and then it's off to the paint booth.... Goose up the interior a bit... Good for at least another 150K miles... Better that new, for a whole lot less that new...

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

I used to be a blue blooded Ford Man, the sun rose and set on Dearborn

Then ... I grew up, realized that the difference between makes is the driver, not the company (granted, chevrolet seems to tolerate idiots better in general, which is why you find so many idiots driving chevys!)

my current set of wheels happens to be a 83
P i m p a l a, does ok by me, my van is a Ford, most of my vans have been fords, all solid trucks, the 76 E 150 was the strongest best riding truck that I have ever seen in a half tonner

But ANY car has the potential to be good, I drove a vega 200,000 miles, it was GT, I loved it

One thing ... someone sold ya a bill of goods kenny, Mustangs are a passion with me, ive had a few in my life, and in 73 the top power option was the 351 4V Cobra Jet, but with only 266 net hp you didn't jet too fast. The standard Mach 1 engine was the 302 2V with a low 141 net hp or an optional 351 2V with 177 net hp. Pitiful, but those were the good ol days, even worse was the next year with those Mustang II hunks of crap, the Cobra II was cool looking, but Ford lost me to the Trans Am in mid to late seventies

but in late 69 to 71, woo hooo, you certainly could get you a "officially rated" 290 horse boss 302, which actually cranked out something to the order of 350 - 375 horsepower, the reasons are many but Insurance was a killer back then for the high horse jobbers, also kept the Naders off your back

to you youngsters out there ... love whatcha got, life is too short

to you old f#2ks, well, we found that out the hard way, didnt we?

:p

Then they
will answer..
Same thing.. ask how the chevy handels payloads..
GMC! Then they will answer...
How is the paint job..
GMC! And then answers...
It's a fun game... :) just don't let your friends
know you are testing them :)
Try it, it works everytime!
hehe

Re: Ford Tough Trucks

The first US four wheel drive vehicle, was built 1908 by the Four Wheel Drive auto company (FWD), of Clintonville WI, and manufactured 4x4 trucks. FWD supplied 4x4 trucks to both the British and US armies during World War One. They now make fire trucks, under the Seagrave name.

Porsche had one (electric) in 1900.
Mercedes in 1926, with all wheel steering.
DaimlerBenz in 1903.
BMW in 1926.
