I bought this kit for my engine install:

I am trying to swap the fuel pump from the old motor to the new... It appears there were two gaskets with the pump assembly, almost like an upper and a lower that are stacked.

Which gasket did I get with the kit? Can anyone help me figure this out? If the gasket fits the pump, it doesn't fit the block and vice versa. (Like its upside down)

Re: Fuel pump gaskets?

The gasket in cyl.#3 is the fuelpump gasket........(3rd from the left)

I Don't see the 1 for the adapter plate....

Re: Fuel pump gaskets?

Is there somewhere I might be able to get one locally? Is it a standard style part (ie, something I can get for automotive use)?

What specifically would I ask for? An "adapter plate gasket" for a Chevy smallblock fuel pump?

Re: Fuel pump gaskets?

Nope,....
I'm looking in the Napa catalog now,....
Th 3.0l uses 2 Fuel Pump Mounting Gaskets,.....

1 is #18-0889,.....
The 1 you Need is listed as NSS......... Not Sold Seperately......

It Looks just like the 1 you have, with wider sides..... It's very different from all the other Chevies......

For reference,....
I'm looking at page 435 in the Napa catalog # MSP-8....

What now? Buy a whole new fuel pump for a gasket?

Re: Fuel pump gaskets?

looks like an inline 4, means it has no adapter.
however many had a plastic isolator between the pump and the block that was about 1/8-3/16ths or so thick and used a gasket on both sides.
its a standard inline 4 or 6 gasket.

Re: Fuel pump gaskets?

I just took a closer look at the old motor and found a 1/8" (or so) thick fiber type gasket on the fuel pump flange on the block... It looks about the same shape as two gaskets stacked on top of each other, just upside down from each other.

What side gets the gasket? There looks to be gasket material on both sides of this thing.

Do I just use this and get another gasket for the pump side so that there's one on either side, just opposite vertically from each other?

Re: Fuel pump gaskets?

that fiber plastic looking thing is the isolator, carefully remove the old gasket, use 2 new gaskets, they are identical pretty much, and put it back together.
many many applications, especially japanese stuff, use an isolator the aid in lowering the block heat that is transfered to the pump to aid against vapor lock.

Cool, thanks for the info. I got another gasket from Autozone and did what you said, stacked them with the isolator between them.
