Re: fuel pinch?

Tell me about it, I want to get at least 2 more fishing trips in before winterizing the boat, one 20 mins away and one 3.5hr away. I am definetely gonna forget about the 3.5hr away one even though it's the better one.

Must........Not........ Post!.........;):D

I wasn't going to post, but I'm really irritated that "My" oil company is paying a $30,000,000 judgement for "our" part in the Iraq food for oil debacle.
No guilt or innocence implied.

What a crock.

And yes, prices hurt even more with what we know.

Re: fuel pinch?

Yeah, I've been feeling the fuel pinch since it passed the equivalent of $11/gallon here...

Costs me the equivalent of $250 to fill my boat.

Re: fuel pinch?

Sorry, bad maths converting ? to $ on my part. It's currently the equivalent of $9.86 per gallon.

It works out that it costs me the equivalent of $425.44 to fill my car and boat with fuel.

Re: fuel pinch?

You believe that? My oil company contacts tell me they are running at over 100%. Again, media get's it wrong.

Depends on what way you define as 100% capacity. Every manufacturing operation schedules a certain amount of downtime for maintenance. If an operation is running at "over" 100 %, that must assume they are operating times when they were scheduled to be down.

In any event, recent gas prices have not kept up with advances in the crude prices, which should mean based on normal market forces that the current driving force for gas prices is not refinery capacity but crude markets.

Re: fuel pinch?

Just want to say timeing is every thing. I got a bigger boat and a new pickup to pull it, so it doesn't effect me , between the two I can't afford to put gas in either.
Hey !!!!!! just a thought , maybe we'll all get a raise or win the lottery.....

Its going to suck come spring.I'll have to tow the new travel trailer to the lake then come back and get the boat...
It would be cheaper just staying down at the lake paying campsite fees for a month or two than buying all that gas.
Been looking at new trucks, thats out of the budget for sure with gas prices over 3 bucks..

Re: fuel pinch?

Last month had to get a new delivery truck for my store and went diesel. Better gas mileage but diesel went up. Fill up now over 100 smacks.
I had to raise my delivery cost which use to be free to 50$ within a twenty mile range

Its the trickle down effect which raises all our prices. Those who have money are still spending and those who cant its a wait and see. Already saying that retailers are expecting a lot of bah humbug this year.

Re: fuel pinch?

How come we've gotta come up with $3 trillion to help Iraq, then pay $90 for a barrel of their oil, whatever happened to the barter system. Just a dumb old country boy, don't understand all this high finance stuff. We even get to buy the fuel for the tanks, planes, hummers, and limos we're drivin' around in over there I guess, pullinto the local Quik - Stop and "Fill 'er Achmed, put it on Sam's Visa card." Yeah, I know this is gonna get poofed, but, gotta vent now and then

Re: fuel pinch?

Anyone ever give it some thought that the gas prices now are where they should be, and the gas prices of the 90s were abnormally low? Had they not been abnormally low for so long, we would have learned to conserve far better. Now we are getting a crash course on conserving gas.

The only way gas prices will come down is this:

1)Iran's president is gone and a more US friendly one replaces him.
2)Iraq war is over and Iraq stays stable.
3)Nigeria fixes its security issues.

If I was president, I would concentrate heavily on these three.

After these are fixed, the price of oil should go down to 50-60 dollars/bbl, which would leave gas prices in the 2.00-2.50 range.

All of you need to forget the 99 cent gas, it aint ever gonna happen again unless a major world economy crashes, such as China. And then you will have much bigger worries than the high price of gas.

Re: fuel pinch?

I don't want 99 cents. But, a 1.50 -1.75 would be good. Even 2 bucks is stating to look OK. If it hits 5 there is going to be trouble. The shipping cost on everything would go through the roof and everyone would quit buying things. Like, say, boats.

Re: fuel pinch?

I drove to the beach and back this past week (175 miles one way) and noticed that instead of it costing me the usual 50 bucks for fuel I spent over 70....No big deal but I would not like to drive back and forth on a regular basis. Its the poor folks that must comute 30/50 miles each way to work that feel it. not to mention the cost of heating oil. Some folks from up north close up their big houses for the winter and come down to the SC coast and rent a motel room by the month for much less that heating oil alone would cost. I saw one nice place that wanted only 450 bucks for an entire month and that includes your electric, local phone, heat, cable tv and room service.
