Re: hull extension in progress with picks

There was a small bock with a B&M style blower in the local trading post here. I'll try and find out some more about it. A supercharged sb with a quick and quiet exhaust could give you that upper end power, and still let you cruise slow like you said you do most of the time. Most naturally aspirated engines built to the hilt don't like to be idled or run at lower rpms.

thats one of my biggest concerns overit.

in order to get the slow cruising i want, and the top end that i want...i allmost need two motors....i dont want to hang a troller off the back, as i dont want the hassel of "changing propulsion systems" every time my girl and i decide to slow down and cruise.. i just like to throttle back and put, and when were done or its time to go im...just hit it.

every time you use a "go fast" motor, you sacrifice relyability, (boats are all a trade off :() i could put a full blown alchol burning hemi in there, and it would last for a week.

if i keep it "stock" i need a 505 to get the hp, but i still wont get the spin speed we need as boaters for the top end. even with a good gear set.

thats why a sbc, stroked will be the best trade off...(imho) but a pully driven
blower would be real nice. :D

the only thing with bbc....i will need to extend the hull of a towing barge to fit a 53 foot fuel tanker on it

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

The more I looked last night, the more I came to the conclusion that I could in a lot of cases, buy a used boat with a stroker motor, and trailer, for the same price as the stroker motor and out drive alone. The market has kind of turned itself on it's head lately.

Maybe Bubba's insider connections can pull out that needle in the hay stack for you. :)

i been searching for a stroker/bravo/volvo pkg for as long time. that way i just swap my 4.3/alpha and have a pkg to sell ! it would bring down the cost of the motor drive. but i cant seem to find a lake stroker package around here...(with in a thousand miles) every time i get on cl...in stead of welcome...it says...you again???

If you really want the best slow speed cruising it can be done easily, but will cost a little $$.

Get a Yamaha T8 with PT&T, electric start and a TR1 auto pilot for it. It will be whisper quiet, use almost no fuel and will follow whatever course you set. You can steer it with the main motor or use the hand held wireless remote control when not using the auto pilot.

You can mount it on the swim platform under a raised area that can be used as a step to get into the boat, or a base for a water slide.

With this setup you can cruise in stealth mode and never need to get up and leave the helm to switch from one engine to the other. The T8 will keep the batteries charged so you can run lights and sound the whole time with no worries about running them dead.

I know you like to exercise, but with a T8 you won't need to swim back to the dock while pulling a 24' boat full of young swimsuit models.

You will also be able to troll, Joan will like that.

That turbine works for me LOL. It turns at 19,500 rpm and they geared it down to turn 6000 rpm at the shaft. Wonder how fast oops! boat would go with a 1 to 1 ratio? :D Too bad it needs a 96" engine compartment, nothing another 5 or 6 ft in his hull wouldn't cure . http://www.turbinemarine.com/turbine_standard.html

that would put the engine right behind the driver seat in my ride!!! OOHHHH MAN Would that be fun Till I Went Over The Dam !!! YYYEEEEEEE HHHAAAA
hahhahahaa

BRB. OOOHHH Homey can I repower my Boat !!! hahhahahaha John

That's funny Turtle,as you were posting that shark engine I was sending oops! a pm with that exact engine. They even have a layaway plan to stretch it out a little. Personally I would find a parts boat with all the parts you would need then have the engine rebuilt to the specs you want. oops! has a builder that has done engines for me and oops! in the past and they are both running strong. I would not go with so much power but a strong hi revving small block. I think the big oil boys learned where the breaking point is for the price of oil is and don't think it will ever go as high as as it was again, but the price of fuel should be a consideration. This is not a show boat but an every day user so some compromises have to be made.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

oops! first car was a 69 charger with, you guessed it,a 383. I think that's where the 383 stroker Idea is coming from. It would be nice but there would be no putting around with that thing in the back of the boat. I've been working on him since day one to tame it down a bit and get something reliable and better on fuel. There is a complete 350 mercruiser pkg in CL today with leg and all needed. Hope the guy has a reasonable price on it.

Hp and rpm takes fuel,High rpm and longgivaty dont go to gether. Also a 350 will rev higher than a 383.You dont need 4.30 gears in a big block.383 is a good mid engine. You dont need to turn super rpm when you have the touqe to pull a stiff prop.I have seen small blocks drink 6 gallon of fuel in 1/4 mile.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

pro.....

the prop im hoping to go for is a 26.....the target wot throttle is 6000....

gear....1.5....

i can go higher pitch....possibly a 29....but id rather have more wot spins and less prop. than a 4500 rpm and more prop......

thats why the stroker over a 350....

i can get the hp outta the 350.....and some spin...bit then i loose relyability.and the twin 4bbls will drink more at low rpm..

with the bigger displacement...its easyer to get more hp and more spin than loose the relyability..... and i can go single 4bbl with the same hp out put.

boats are such a trade off........i gotta admit....i really like the turbine....now mabe...just mabe......the turbine manufacturers need a few new matresses !:D

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

if you want project engines, ive got 2 302 crusaiders that i took out of my project, compression tests failed, never bothered to look into fixing(got a good deal on new engines), take them both away for $500. basically just the blocks. the coils, and distributers are there, but i doubt they work, ive also got the carbs, but they are jammed.

Re: hull extension in progress with picks

thanks for the offer legoman......but i think im gonna need a little more cid than a 302.....a 350 at absolute minimum.....that is a really big heavy boat.

im guessing about 32 or 3300 lbs wet

Aluminum Heads 24502609

YOUR PRICE: </B>$3,779.00

ZZ4 Crate Engine 350CI 355HP HO with Aluminum Heads 24502609 Description Imagine an aluminum head small block that makes 355 horsepower.
What if it had a steel roller camshaft, four bolt main block, undercut rolled fillet crankshaft, high silicon pistons and strong PM connecting rods? We imagined it, and then engineered, developed, tested and built it. The ZZ4 is the evolution of our popular ZZ series of small blocks that power thousands of street rods, hot street cars, circle track racers and drag racers. With over 400 ft.lbs. of torque, the ZZ4 is the best way to put an aluminum head, roller cam, high performance small block between your favorite fenders.

The aluminum angle plug cylinder heads have screw in rocker studs, 1.94" intake and 1.50" exhaust valves and 58cc combustion chambers that yield a crisp and responsive 10 to 1 compression ratio. Also included are our lightweight valve spring retainers that weigh half as much as our previous design. The valve seats are radiused and we've included valve stem seals to help keep the oil where it belongs.

To compliment the cylinder head design, we've incorporated a steel roller tappet camshaft with .474" intake and .510" exhaust valve lift. The combination makes 355 horsepower at 5250 rpm and has that great sounding muscle car idle, with just enough lope to let people know that this is no station wagon engine.

Also included with the ZZ4 is an HEI distributor with an ignition timing advance curve developed for performance, a dual plane aluminum intake manifold that accepts your spread bore or square bore carburetor, an 8" high-RPM torsional damper, 12.75" auto trans flex plate and cast iron water pump.

The ZZ4 is currently our most popular crate engine, and you can see why. With a long history of successes in circle track and drag racing as well as street rods and other performance applications, the ZZ4 may just be the bullet for your next project.

The ZZ4 is not intended for marine use, and should only be used in 1976 and earlier pre-emissions street vehicles or any year off road vehicles.

( They do not like this engine used in Marine without a 7-8 quart oil pan.) So change the oil pan and you have it.

Mercruiser 383 Stroker MPI
Complete Engine

Certified Pre-Owned
Reconditioned

Horsepower: 325
Cylinders: 8

Price: $7,795.00

I have one of these in our 25 Formula Cruiser. It replaced the old carbed to 260 we got the full package with the Bravo one drive. The boat wots out at 44mph. The boat is comparable to a sea ray cruiser. So the performance and efficeincy is great.
