Re: Transom Plate removal.

After all your posts with that "Automotive" engine, the problems with the gimbal bearing coming out in pieces, and now pulling the transom sheild, are you sure this boat is even worth all the effort and expense? Are you actually going to get a marine engine or at least the marine related parts to make it safe?

Yes i am going to change the engine ,and as i have spent so much time on this boat its too late to stop ...:) i am getting the transom sheild from a next boat , and i am doing the work myself and at the same time gathering knowdlege .so i think it is worth it this island is not like in the states where you can just walk in a auction and buy a boat.

Bayline Do you have an easy guide,i heard by pulling the 6 bolts that hold the plate i will get it off without pulling the engine.

Ayuh,......

If you do it That way the motor will collapse into the boat.....

It's designed as a Unit,+ taking Short-Cuts will only make your life Tougher.....

As Noted,.....
Pull the Drive,......
Pull the Motor,......
Then pull the 6 Nuts,+ seperate the Inner from the Outer......

If you're still trying to get the Gimbel Bearing out,.....
Just Pull the Drive,+ Motor,....
Then with a bar,+ BFH,..... Knock the bearing out from Inside the boat.....

Re: Transom Plate removal.

There is no "EASY" way to do this job. You must remove the engine anyway since you said you was putting another one in, so what's the problem????
You REALLY-REALLY-REALLY need to read linked section of the manual before you get started. And follow the directions.
And be sure to read understand the question in blue in my signature.

Re: Transom Plate removal.

Are you aware that the transom plate, also functions as the rear mounts for the engine, I don't see how you could remove it with the engine in the boat, even if you could support the engine from above--get a manual and do it the right way.

No heat on the transom plate if it's mounted to the boat....

Do you have at least a 5LB slide hammer??

Re: Transom Plate removal.

Oh Im sorry I should clarify....I didnt mean that you could simply pull the bolts out and remove the outer plate although, yes you could but as Bondo tell it the motor has no support since the transom sheild / plate are the rear mounts.

I thought you were asking how the outer plate was held on and after you pulled the motor how you remove that plate.....Im glad the other top guys addressed this faster then I did!
