Electric Scooter use car battery?

The batteries on my 300watt electric scooter stopped accepting a charge last year. They are two 12v 7amp batteries in parallel. The new batteries are expensive though, does anyone know if I can use a 12v car battery or deep cycle? I'm sure the motor would be fine, I'm just worried about frying the speed controller. This summer I plan to use it more, the 15 mile range will get me to work and back.

I believe the scooter will be ok with deep cycle batteries. The motor will still pull the same amperage/watts, so the controller won't be doing any extra duty. Should work fine.

Now if you put a bigger motor on it, the controller will be stressed.

Using a vented battery will lead to corrosion problems, but as long as it fits and has the capacity anything will work. Recommend deep cycles though.

300 watt is the smallest motor, and probably take a batt (2) thats 6L/2 1/2 'cross/4H
And they are in series for 24 volts, not 12.
Stick a car battery in if ya want, it wont even move. Need 24 volts.
Batteries Plus or any good Batt store has then. Have to fork over the dough (they aint that expensive, less than $20)

Slap a pair of full size 600 a/h deep cycle batts on there like saddle bags and run it for a week on a charge.:D:D:D

with the original batteries it would go 12-15 miles on a charge depending on terrain and load

I think your gonna need bigger batteries and a larger charger to go with them.
Your gonna be running those batteries close to or at full discharge every day and the chargers for stuff like that are gonna take a bit more than "over night" charge to keep up.
