Re: Circuit City BEWARE

The problem with the entire electronics retail market has been that historically they have been owned, managed and operated by the most unscrupulous people on the face of this planet. Starting way back in the '70's when Crazy Eddie ran a discount store in NYC. He eventually embezzled millions and ran off to Israel. Was later caught and prosecuted (if I remember right. Do a search on Crazy Eddie)

That set the industry standard. Crooked ads, crooked manages, lying comision sales, fast and crappy installers.

No, you don't get what you pay for from Best Buy or Circuit City.

I find you do best ordering off the internet, where returns are easy. Or buy from large department stores.

If you need something installed, use a private installer. You pay more, but get what you pay for.

BTW, one place I deal with almost exclusivelly for electonics and video is B and H Photo and Video http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ . I have NEVER had a single issue with the thousands of dollars worth of photo and electronics I ordered from them.

I don't agree with that at all......maybe because I manage, sell, and have done installs in retail electronics.

Sure this can sometimes be true, but don't name drop corporations if you don't know what you are talking about. Best Buy is non commissioned strictly to keep this from happening.

Maybe you have had a few bad expiriences, but don't blanket the whole industry with your comments. I for one take offense.

I guess it comes down to service. You can go to any store and have a great service person help you and then maybe someone there whos not helpful can wait on you the next day....:D

Thats exactly what should have happened IMO.

Sad that it customer service varies so much from person to person. Some of the problem.....at least in my opinion.....is that it can be very difficult to get rid of problem employees. There is so much documentation needed that sometimes you get stuck with a bad employee for a period of time. I have seen a lot of people who can talk the talk in an interview and then once u hire them they are just horrible. Performance managing people out of a store can take awhile......

no the store manager is out of town. i bet they take the money out of the installers pockets. the installer, and her manager both said there was nothing there they had to unplug. i have now learned total different. thanks, to Knot Waiting, he has sent me diagrams etc.

If the installers were circuit city installers then they can't take the money out of their pockets directly... might not give 'em a raise next year though.

As I said before...........Best Buy DOES NOT use forklifts.

Call the East Hanover Store in NJ. They loaded a 32" Sony color TV in my BIL's pickup in the loading section with a forklift in 1994. I remember it well because the kid driving the forklift was joking about how many TV's he put the fork through. He said "you won't believe how thick the glass is on the picture tube... I know because I put the fork lift through a few.... Thats what makes them so heavy."

Of course, just because they used fork lifts in 1994 is no guarantee they are still using them in 2008.

Pony, I admire your loyalty to BB. But what makes you an expert on management practices at every BB in the country?

Frankly, your argumentative defense of BB, without any first hand knowledge of what may have happened at a particular store, is exactly the sort of frustratingly poor customer service that people are complaining about.

I understand that BB management has programmed you to think that customers are bad, but please remember that you exist to serve us. We do not exist to purchase chinese made merchandise from you. I have had terrible service at BB many times in my 40 years of existence. You've been working in the stock room for maybe three? I'll trust my first hand experience over your standard company line any day.

No offense.

I don't know how the management practices are in every store in the country, but I know how they are supposed to be. I know there are hundreds of stores that are run by people who use questionable sales tactics. That is not what BB is about nor what it aims to be. It happens all the time, and creates opinions such as yours.......that is just the way of retail.

Anyone would more than likely defend the company they work for correct? I know that not every store is the same, but just as I cannot be sure of the managments practices at every store in the country, you cannot be sure of how BB managers are "programmed" without first hand knowlege of it. We are never trained to think customers are bad..........not even close.

I never asked anyone to buy into what I have to say.........I said from the begining I was biased about the situation. Your 40 years expirience tells you otherwise...........all it tells me is there is still a lot of room for improvement on my end. I don't recall saying its not about service.......I know that it is. I brought up as few instances where customers can be out of line.......just to prove a point.

No offense was taken........I just am upset that it came off like I was trying to force my ideals on people. You can shop wherever you want to, it doesnt' hurt my feelinga. No company is perfect, BB certainly isn't......I just feel at this point in most cases its better than the alternative.
