Re: Do you go ou with a 30% chance of rain?
July 4th here in Jacksonville was a case in point...there wasn't a big chance of rain, so we went out on the St. Johns River, which was like glass around 10:30 am. Took the boat up to Doctor's Lake, had an early dinner, got back out on the boat around 5:30, and to our surprise, it was like the ocean. Getting back into the river from the inlet was interesting, with waves crashing over the bow of our bowrider. There were no storms, just incredible wind. I had to have my husband wipe my sunglasses off every 30 seconds just so that I could see. Good thing I was the "designated driver" that day and hadn't had a cocktail! It actually turned out fun, riding the waves, but everyone was drenched from the spray.
Then just last week I was driving over Julington Creek Bridge, watching a huge squall line crossing the river. Couldn't see the mouth of the creek at all, just torrential rain. A small boat was trying to outrun the rain at high speed just in front of the squall, which had some thunder and lightning mixed in. Hope he made it in time, although I can't imagine that anyone could have escaped that downpour. Glad it wasn't me!
