in 1970 i tow a one wheel camping trailer from San Diego across the country on 2 week trip, to see the country. had a hitch on each side of the bumper, and wheel in the center of the trailer, legs on 4 corner of the trailer. neat trip.
We had one of those when I was a kid, same thought I had when I saw the pic. Give the guy credit, he probably got it home . . .

don't laugh, i brought one home not long ago, that had a bad hub. loaded it on a landscape trailer with the tongue hanging of the back, just did not use the jack wheel.

That is the famous El Camino from the hit NBC series "My Name is Earl"

that's a classic El Camino. it was a Chevy Malibu with the truck rear. the original to start the phase, was a Ford Ranchero, a ford Falcon with the truck rear. both were very popular. car luxury, pick up usefulness.

In its day, the El Camino was a sweet car (still is if you ever see one restored)

Yeah, I knew what it was. I just like picking on 'em.:p

They were actually station wagons without the, uh, wagon part. There's even a sheet metal plate in the bed that covers the former rear floorboard area. My neighbor has one in his driveway complete with four flats & a lovely patina.

Not a great car, not a great truck but they're fabulous lawn decor.

Have you ever gone for a ride in a 69-70 Camino S.S., big block 4 gear? It will haul most anything a pick-up would, including Haul A55'. In 1972 I bought a 70 dark green S.S. 396 c/w muncie 4spd.It got about 10 miles to a Cnd. gal.
Sold it for a 69 Nova with a small block/Borg Warner 4speed, cause it got 14mpg.

Wish I knew then what I know now!

When I was in High School there was one of these with a Keith Black racing engine in it. Definitely the hottest car there and it would do wheel stands . . . It was called Jumping Jack Flash and that's exactly what it did. We had a small hill leading up to the parking lot and every once in a while somebody would oil the hill down so we could do endless burnouts. It was really fun to stand at the top of the parking lot and watch unsuspecting teachers sliding all over the place  :D Oh, those were the days . . . Thanks for the memories

Make that two!

My 13 yo daughter has a '64 with 283 powerglide combo. If I rodstore (restro/rod) it it'll get a 400 with a 700R4. Kinda iffy at the moment because it'll take alot of green stuff that could be better spent somewhere else and she won't be allowed to drive it much anyhow. We've thought about selling it to a restorer and banking the money for a ricer. Who knows, it'll play out in the end.

Hey Daryl, "utes" are a pretty big seller down-under.
Both Ford and Holden (GM) make one, and they come in a mass range of fitouts, from basic to absolute luxuary, and then the sports line.
They even have a race curcuit that races them (full season...they are probably as quick as the quickest super V8)
Problem with the base models for the tradesman, they come min of 6cyl 4L motor and only 2 seater, plus in Ford Range you have to buy the 'Longreach' model to get a 1 ton payload....so the 1 ton drop side Rice wagons do them over in sales (4cyl, 2.4 - 2.8L, bench seat for 3).

Here are some snaps for you to enjoy Daryl:

These arn't new models....a few yrs old.
Cheers
