Is that a metal plate on the transom?,
thats often done to cover up a rotted transom core.

Great looking boat, looks like a private ferry.

Re: microplus 571

I`m not sure how long it`ll take, the boat is almost ready then I plan to up grade the trailer. I have a 70hp johnson outboard working just fine. The resession has left a little less money knocking about for me so it`ll take a little longer but I`m not bothered about. We have the rain here this weekend KeepNitreel,if it picks up later I`ll go and do a bit just to get out.

Hey your not the only one, I have been doing some side jobs to fund this project. Craigslist & ebay have helped with keeping the cost low, in fact I just found a new boat cover off Craigslist for $25

I got some work done on my trailer this weekend.Cut old bunks and rollers off and gave frame a clean, about one more day of cleaning should do it. I hope to have new bunks made this week and new rollers fitted.

Re: microplus 571

Hi all I have two areas to repair on my boat. First area of concern is a hole in the hull. The second area is the deck. My question is what resin should i use epoxy or polyester for these repairs. Thanks for any help given.

Re: microplus 571

I got a bit more done on the boat trailer today. Turned it over and removed everything, its just the frame now. Cleaned as much as I could. I`m going to cut out bad section of metal and rebuild it. Hopefully it`ll be ready for painting after tomorrow and then I can start to rebuild it with new rollers. Whats the best way to paint and what to use ? What type of primer should I put on first.

Re: microplus 571

I have a question for you guys so here it is,did I make a mistake in painting the trailer black ? My friend said I should have painted it a different colour to help see it better in the water. I do plan on putting reflectors along the trailer and on the mudguards. So guys what is your opinions please as I was going to finish trailer tomorrow now wondering to paint again or not.

Re: microplus 571

i painted mine black...and i didnt have reflectors or side rails. as long as you know you can back a trailer in the water straight and you know you can drive a boat straight...you should be fine.

i personally think a black trailer is the way to go.

Cool boat Paul. Nice work on the resto so far as well.

I like black on the trailer as well. I do plan to paint the wheel well/covers on the trailer a different color though. Probably white or blue.

Keep the pics coming. Have you done anything else with the boat...cockpit, seating, paint, etc...?

Re: microplus 571

Thanks WesMason,I think i`ll be painting the mudguards also. I`ve not done much with the boat lately i`ve just been working on the trailer. I did do the electrics not too long ago. When I get it back on the trailer I plan too start back on the boat i`ve a few areas which need fibreglass repair work.

Re: microplus 571

man, I just checked this thread out and boy that is a hell of a boat! Most on here are smallish pleasure boats, yours in a barge! You seem to have a good boat though bud! Nothing that I have seen would make me scared...on your glass questions, since you dont have any expierience with glass work, epoxy is just about foolproof. But, if you intend to have gelcoat reaplied to the area, it will not stick to epoxy. You should look at the way water would get itself back to the stern area and install a bilge. Just cut out a small square section and frame it up with glassed exterior ply, install the bilge pumps there and dont forget to provide a way to allow water to get into it from all angles. If you check out my thread in my sig the last few updates have all got to do with drainage to the bilge that I made.

Good job so far! Love the trailer. Any good deals on the rollers you care to share?

Re: microplus 571

After been away from my boat for some time I got back to do a bit today. The body of the boat is coming away from the hull in places, i`ve cut down the bad areas and started cleaning the fibreglass. My plan is to put new fibreglass down to reinforce these areas. Am I doing the right thing here ? How many layers of fibreglass would be recomended for a job like this ? Any help would be great. I`ll put a few pics up and hopefully you guys will get a better idea of what I`m talking about. Thanks
