Sending roses for Valentines day?

If you are going to order roses online, you might want to check out proflowers.com. They had the best offer I found while checking this morning. I just placed an order for 1 doz long stem roses with free red glass vase total with shipping was $48. Thats cheaper than I can buy local.

If you take this link, the $59 dollar special will be $39, then at checkout time enter "google" in the corporate ID code area and that will take another 20% off the order.

I don't know how these places can change their websites so fast, but if you go looking for the 39 rose offer, you won't find it. After placing the order, I could not find the offer again, so I used the back button to finally get the offer back. This is it:

http://products.proflowers.com/flow...Dozen+Long+Stemmed+Red+Roses+w/FREE+Ruby+Vase

Anyway, just thought I would pass this along to anyone ordering roses.

BTW, when I entered one of those radio station "special offer" codes in the proflowers.com site, all the regular offers went away, and the new "special" offers were the same products with higher prices! WTF???? How do they get away with doing that?

The dittoheads are too busy solving all the world's problems to notice. You gotta love free market ingenuity.

When I was a kid, the owner of the local Super value used to build an end cap with say 25 cent a jar olives, special 2 for 59 cents. He had a weird sense of humor. My mom caught on and they used to laugh together about it.

Price of a small box of chocolates??

I used to always get the wife and kids a giant Hershey bar each. More chocolate, less money, and you don't discover one of those fruity ugh pieces of whatever they throw in that assortment.:D

I'm with eaglejim on this.
Told the wife the same thing.

As for the proflowers, I'm not interested in finding out what frozen roses look like when they are delivered.

Actually, the idea itself goes back to the middle ages... prior to the fancy greeting cards people just wrote love notes ;) The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine; if any really cares. Regardless, if you "do" honor this holiday why not be different and go beyond flowers ;)

No joke-- 'course that fork might hurt.

I ordered mine online today, surprisingly enough from a local florist. I know Valentine's day is on Saturday, but the flowers don't count unless everyone at work sees them. So with that, they'll be delivered on Friday.:D

Update:

I get home from work yesterday and she tells me she doesn't have to work on Friday.:eek::eek:

I called the Florist this morning and gave them the news. So now I'll be leaving from work and driving to Alabama to pick up flowers.

Re: Sending roses for Valentines day?

Well, we are going to make dinner together and have a bottle of wine and hit the hot tub. Its going to be great as always.;)
As for flowers...you bet. Ever since we first started dating I have gone out and hand picked out a bouquet of flowers for her. She always appreciates it. She is a serious gardener and loves flowers in the house. I do all the picking out and bouquet building myself and try to avoid the ol' dash, grab and run line at the flower shop.
Like Christmas, Weddings, (Wedding rings...diamond bracelets, earrings, etc, etc), (kids) birthdays it has its heavily commercial side that fundamentaly doesn't have much to do with the spirit of the event. However it doesn't have to be expensive and it can have some great (and welcomed) thought behind it.
I'm in and looking forward to it!!:):)

To WORK! :D
We are too old to participate in something we feel is for kids and young lovers.

I'll fix dinner tonight. That means more to her more than anything I can get her, especially when I clean my mess up in the kitchen :D

Re: Sending roses for Valentines day?

I cringe at the rip-off prices of flowers and was very tempted by the proflowers $40 ad (maybe hearing it 800 times on satellite radio stations).

Decided to help the the "local economy" in stead and orderd roses at DOUBLE the proflowers price, for Friday delivery to the DW's work. The DW comes home empty handed, finding out today that THE FLORIST LOST THE ORDER!

The wife is pleased that I thought of her and I get my $80 back. I did get her a card and candy as a backup.

This is the greatest Valentines day ever! ;)
