Saw one guy towing his boat away when we got there....wish I would have got to watch him retrieve.

A couple more weeks and I'll be ready to launch!

That has to be one of the nicest ramps I've ever seen.

And free too!

I've never actually used it yet. Thought about it all last year, but was worried my boat was too small for the harbour. It was only a 14 footer....now that I have a 14 and a half footer I figure the time is right! ;)

Its a great harbour and your 14'er will be fine. I bombed around in that harbour with my 15' starcraft for a couple of years. although the chop gets worse in the harbour the swells are not there like they are out past the bridge. Don't go out there till you are good and ready

good luck!

Hello fellow Hamiltonians...I love this ramp and its FREE!!!!!! 14ftrs are safe on slight chop in harbour. I have even seen a few venture over to Bayview Park.
I am looking forward to launching hopefully later this week as temps are to rise above 60F by Thursday....

Awesome! I wonder how many more members are from Hamilton and area?

Yep, I'm going to dip my boat in the harbour as soon as I can.

I am launching at 5o point this weekend and heading over to the harbour for a run to clean any cobwebs out. Maybe I'll see you guys out there

How long is the ride from 50 Point?

I haven't had my new boat out yet, but I was told it will do about 35 mph. I plan to do a lot more with my boat this year.....the more use....the more justification for a newer bigger boat!

its about 20 minutes at 30 mph as the crow flies. Its not very often the water is smooth out there usually swells of some type. 35 mph + 14' Boat + a bit of chop = more time in the air and less in the water.

Definitely a jaunt for a 14' even for a much larger craft. As I am only 5 min. away from Bayfront, that will be my home launch.

I do however plan on an eastern basin launch very soon as the ice has made it's way to Waverly and beyond towards the river mouth. I am predominately a Northern shore Lake Erie sailer as the fishing is awesome and always exciting. So many species to catch and the summer beaches provide a very scenic view..

See ya all on the ponds soon..

Free all year. But, once boating season hits the peak it is a zoo down there. We have had to triple up on docking sometimes as some boaters are not as quick as others to leave ramp.

They are calling for rain this weekend, but I will be ready as soon as the dry flies... Maybe we will see each other down there..

Free, eh? Nice! I remember the good ol days when the Toronto area ramps were free too. No longer sadly, although I do grudgingly admit the idea of 3 million taxpayers supporting a couple thousand boaters is a little hard to defend. However, it won't keep me from heading your way from Oakville this summer! :D

I hear ya. Come on down. The more the merrier...Like I said though, it is crazy here in the summer and the parking is limited...A nice ramp with a fair sized dock to boot...Hard to believe but it is a blessing as free ramps are hard to come by and especially those so well kept as this one..

It's kinda rough out there when the wind is from the N E. blowing from the lake
Other than that, it's pretty sheltered harbour...and the largemouth are BACK
I used to go out there all the time on my 12 footer with a 4.5 merc.
A 14 should be more than comfortable for ya!
It's a great launch

Cheers

Oh yeah 22e. Bass, Pike along the north shore and west end, heck my friends have even caught the odd wally, salmon and trout. Hard to believe, but whatever is in the lake wanders in especially early spring as the water begins to warm...

You'd be surprised what you can hook in there. I know I was...

Yep, got a 2.5lber right at the rock islands across from the launch.
I went to see them lift the fish basket at the carp barrier last Saturday with my daughter and they had a 2lb bass in their tank...they released it into the Cootes Paradise side.
They have put a few back in there to spawn.
Its definitely on the come back...pike, rainbows, walleye, bass, salmon, perch.
Hopefully they keep it a free launch.
The next closest launch is on the other side of the Skyway bridge...$10 and they lock the gate at 7pm:mad:
It is a secret treasure trove of urban fishing that not too many people know about.

See ya on the water!
