Re: Starting a 68 Starchief Cuddy Restoration

I had one of those DOUH moments tonight. I was drilling holes for the new front motor mount support (new epoxy resin encased Baltic Birch Plywood) When I drilled thru the hull.
Lucky I had the tube of 5200 and one of those stainless grille studs laying around.

That's one thing the glass guys have on us. It's much more painful when we make that mistake.

Bret it could be worse you could have removed your deck only to find some idjit had installed ( aftermarket wood stringers ) in your hull with screws through the hull:confused::mad:. I had to order 250 rivets today in order to fill 24 holes in my hull from the so called stringers .

Cool 63 Huron!

Here are some pics of the durabak and the trim around the motor well. Also one of the partially done doghouse. Anyone have any suggestions on mounting the pedestal seats on the deck? I have the deck thickened to 1-3/8 to mount to, I was thinking 1-1/2" Stainless lag bolts with 5200 to seal the holes???

Sweet doghouse!!!
You'll be in good shape with the lag bolts and that built up area!
Looks really sharp.

Man that Durabak stuff looks fantastic. That's definitely the way to go. I hate my carpet.

The nice thing about the durabak is that it uses rubber granules, not only soft on the feet, but with little kids, less likely to cause a skinned knee if they should fall in the boat, thats what sold me on it. It is also very chemical resistant and waterproof once it fully cures.

how much did you end up using? it seems as they only sell it in gallons, but realisticly i would only need less than 2 quarts...

Re: 68 Starcraft Starchief 18' Cuddy Restoration

Got the trailer re-wired today, went with led lights (I always wanted an excuse to get them, and this was as good as it gets :)) I also got the first side panel re-mounted in the boat. I went with navy vinyl to contrast the grey, and I got blue rivets instead of standard aluminum color for something different. As soon as I get the other one built, I need to get busy sealing the cabin wall panels with spar varnish so I can get them in.
