Re: PLEASE fire your hosting service. PLEASE...

So iboats is free just like commercial television is free? Yeah... okay. Sure. Whatever. I don't drink that Kool Aid. Tellya what... find another site that DOES have a lower price or faster shipping or better customer service and post a thread about it on here... and see how fast you get flamed or even have the thread locked or deleted.

No, no one is forcing us to read pitches. But then again, those pitches are stuck in the middle of "help me" threads, etc. So you may be trying to learn something new only to have someone say that an iboats rep will be in touch with you soon so that they can sell you something.

And I'm not whining. I'm stating facts. I understand right up front what this site is all about and accept it for what it is. I'm not naive and think that it's only a bunch of friends helping each other. Far from it. It's commercial.

However, if the commercialism gets too heavy or the site gets too slow, then moving along to somewhere else indeed becomes an option.

So why are you here???

Don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you, this is not your playground, it's someone's property, and they can do what they wish. So instead of being a whiner, just hit the road :rolleyes::rolleyes:

It's much like going into a local store. There are helpful, friendly store staff members whose primary purpose is to make a sale. There are also other customers who are helpful and friendly as well. All good. However, just as in a local store, if the two friendly customers start talking about how they got a better deal at a different store, then the store staff members might ask them to discontinue that conversation or go somewhere else. That does happen here.

I think you are doing a great disservice to the many people, many whom are true experts in their areas of expertise, who volunteer their knowledge on here to help others with their problems. They are most certainly not like store staff members.

Nope, they are not store staff members. They are other friendly customers, just like me! :D

A quick FREE download of Ad Block Plus will eliminate all the banners and pop ups..That with the Fire Fox browser and it runs great.
On the other hand the advertising helps pay for this FREE website!

All whiners now go sit in the corner and repent!...:p

Well, I said it already in my post #20 above, but will repeat myself for you. "I accept this site for what it is as a commercial enterprise." No problemo.

Just as I frequent my favorite home improvement store. I do business with them and get good advice from the employees... AND I chat with other customers to get and give pertinent information. It's all good. :D

Before Iboats.com, my main source of water inspiration, boating knowledge and expertise was my inlaw. He passed away 10 months ago. Since I joined about 2 months ago, this forum has quenched my thirst for knowledge and then some:) It's a great community here and I'm glad I joined:D

That being said, I too suffered withdrawal when the site was having problems.

I'm glad it's all back to normal!

Ya, I was going through withdrawl in just the couple days it was down, haven't gotten a server busy lately.

Couple of days??? Been like 2 months since I have been able to load a page quicker than 2-3 minutes.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, to the Iboats staff for resolving the problem ;)

It is faster since the changes, which is very nice, especially during the peak hours. I do wish the banners would get moved to between posts rather than using a good 20% of the screen width.

BTW, what is with the canned answer of "Why don't you ... go elsewhere"? Frankly, if everyone who had a gripe went elsewhere, this place would be a ghost town, nothing would ever get improved and the admins would wonder what they did wrong, since nobody would ever give negative feedback. Next time you find yourself grumbling about your boat, follow your own advice and quit boating. Or if you find yourself grumbling about life.. you can possibly rework your unhelpful response.

Frankly, it wouldn't be difficult at all to replace this forum (I'm a web developer), what isn't replaceable are the thousands of helpful posts already here (which were posted by people for actual 'free') and the time we have all spent here building relationships and getting to know people, so save your canned "If you think you can do better.." responses, too. I'm just glad the admins here ponied up and stopped people from going elsewhere due to slowness, as it only takes one person like me to start a forum elsewhere for them to lose business. That's the nature of the net, and I speak from experience.

Me, I'm glad the speed up happened, that way we don't have any more people 'just going elsewhere' and lessening the helpfulness of this forum which has easily saved me thousands and has given me endless entertainment and learning experiences.
