I know the feeling. I have been sweating it out as far as when to paint as almost every day it rains for a little while. Today it's supposed to in the morning so that leaves the afternoon. Fortunately I have a lot to do so painting is just one component...

That paint on the inside is Valspar textured paint called "stone". One can doesn't go too far though. So far I think I'm on can number six and I have a little left to go...

Thanks lowkee...thanks ez... I didn't want to quit working on it because I can finally see some real progress. I guess once the paint starts to change the look of the boat, you get that second wind. I saw northbeach's boat all done and well let's say that was inspiring too

Today's another day so I hope to get a lot done and I'll keep you all posted.

I managed to get the topside painted with the Durabak light blue that I had ordered. It is a great match with the Interlux Light Blue. I had taped off the areas where the steps and other hardware would go to give it a better finished look. Let me know what you think...

The gunwales came out nicely as did the bow. The paint does have quite the odor!

While that was drying/curing, I got the steering wheel/helm all assembled...

...while I'm at it I should show you the dash...

I was able to match up the new to me, but old, helm to the newer 1988 steering cable...everything lined up and when it came time to put it all together, a little bit of "jiggling" and there it was...

I had to fit the dash with masking tape until it was properly centered. Once in, I pre-drilled the holes for screws and then used the 5200 on the stainless steel screws that hold it to the top of the bow...

Here's the new wheel hub. The hub and the wheel were originally black but I sprayed them with the off white Interlux. The chrome on it really dresses it up...

John your really flying along . I managed to get a new coat of red on mine today on the sides 2 more coats over the next couple days . That dash looks fantastic.

Let me back up a bit. I put two coats of the Durabak on and before it fully cured, it does dry quickly by the way, I took off the trim tape but left the tape on to keep the paint off of the rubrail. I then painted over everything with the foam roller again, the Interlux light blue brightside top paint. It was a perfect match. I did have to tip a bit on the bow but it layed down nicely and there are three coats of that and in some places, the bow, there are four coats.

...thanks Rick. I see that multi colored hull you have and I wonder if I should have done something like that. I really like that look.
I was able to get the gunwales taped and painted as well, and today after work, I got some of the gauges in the dash. I was a bit remiss as I didn't take any pics yet. I also put the windshield on because I just couldn't wait!

Looks great...keep the pix coming. Are your decals from Canada the press-on vinyl decals? I have a set of those coming for a 57 Johnson 35 hp...let me know how your decal application goes.

That wood is great!!! Right up there with North beach's!
I need to find a hub for my new wheel..
Had a black plastic hub that was cracked and fugly!
It tough holding things in place and trying to mark holes and all that jazz.

Was going to unbolt my horn today, but didnt have an extra set of hands to be under the bow holding the nuts while I screwed em out..

wow that sounds incredibly dirty!!! almost as bad as my "when my wife gets hole i'll try the third hole."

Kev you need teenagers if beaten into submission you can pretty much get them to do almost anything .

Thanks for the compliment. The decals come with a backing paper which I was told was the same way the stock ones would have come. You have to wet the surface of what you're applying them to, smooth out bubbles, etc... directions did come with them so I'm hoping it won't be too difficult...

I'm not sure it it's what you need, but I still have the 1988 Quicksilver set up. That wheel was black as well. I repainted it black as original thinking I was going to use it...

John a little trick on those decals if they are vinyl like I think they are use a spray bottle with water and a couple drops of dishwashing liquid in it to wet the surface you are applying them to . This will allow you to move them around a bit and get them where you want them . Then take a bondo spreader and work out all the water ( and any bubbles ) before pulling the paper off the front of them . I have lettered alot of Vans in my 20 years of doing HVAC .
