Thank-you. There is a few more pics in the Gulfstream section with a small write up of what I did after I found her sitting uncovered and out of commission in a field. I rescued her for $800.00 many years ago.

I need to get some pics of her in the water. Just installed some smart tabs and ditched the hydrofoil. Very impressed with them. It's like a brand new boat.

when sunlight shines on a surface , as it reflects it carries away electrons in the reflecting surface, lose enough electrons and the surface molecules start to break down, crystals break down and what is left is ash.
Its the ash that you see, it refracts the light and scatters it instead of reflecting the color in the gelcoat.
Under microscope it probably looks like a lunar landscape.
Vaseline fills it in and restores the reflecting quality.
But once its oxydized, (I think its actually sun bleached), anything is likely short lived, some better than others.

Best long term fix for a dash is just replace with something nicer.

Try: Back to black from Mothers. Made for the plastic trim on cars.
Use it like a car wax.
The binacle (dash) on my boatt was weathered from the sun. (I now have a cover). I tried the back to black on it. Came out so well, I took a pic of it to share.
BTW, its carried at most auto and Wallys world.

All those cool switches and buttons! Looks like the cockpit of a Cessna! Very nice, it does look like new!​

Back to Black .... not just for black surfaces, right? Should work on any dash color? If so, it's exactly what my cruiser needs to look great! The faded dash is the one area I haven't been able to get back to looking very nice.

Is it similar in use to ArmourAll (sp?) products?

I would'nt use Armourall on my bicycle.

I use Back-to-Black on my rub rail, never thought of trying it anywhere else. But then again, nothing else need it.

I also use it on the covers on my Avalanche...works great!

I disagree with your assessment, did you miss where it's almost chemically identical to carnuba? I need to find the post, but someone here posted about that.

So you are saying you used Vaseline on your boat, or you are just posting an opinion?

I used 3M cleaner wax on my boat and a couple weeks later it started chalking up. I then used the vaseline, and now something like 6 weeks later no chalking. I did add a coat of PTFE polish on top.

I also doubt there will be any damage caused by using the Vaseline. Sometimes people can't accept a solution that doesn't cost them a good bit of change.

2) yes i have used it, it CANNOT stop oxidation , why? IT HAS NO UV INHIBITORS
3)- keep using it...with nothing to slow down the damage caused by UV,i'm sure your boat will look great in a few years.
4) Opinion? no, 20 years of EXPERIENCE.
I love it when people new to boating have all the answers.

I'm 42 and had my first boat when I was 12. Just been out of it for awhile.

No offense, but I am not taking your posts seriously from now on, because you change your facts all the time, then try to slyly insult me saying I'm a new boater who has all the answers.

I don't believe you've ever used Vaseline, because it obviously does remove oxidation, and protects the surface from UV.

Can I jump in.....

I had a buddy that provided me a purple spray bottle of Meguiars NXT Generation? Tech Protectant, a thick clear fluid that I applied to the dark blue but oxidized paint stripe on my '86 Bayliner. I was absolutely floored at the transformation from old to new again. I also used it on the faded dash gauges and was amazed at how they came back to near new looking condition.

I now have a '70 Evinrude Explorer with a medium blue strip down the side and tried the spray on that and was equally amazed at how it came back. I've even used it on the oxidized white sides and they came back from the dead. It lasts a while and is easy to apply and I'd rather use it than Vaseline. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with using Vaseline. To each his own. My mother used it on her vinyl dash years ago.

Give it a shot, you'd be amazed at the difference in appearance.
