I'm supposed to start a new job this week being my boating work is over for the season.
It is with a truck driver leasing agency. When one of their clients needs a driver they will call me and dispatch me out to that company.

I have the option to work full or part time and get to know many different companies in the area.
If i find something i really like i can talk to them about permanent hire.

I just have the jitters at this point about what my first assignment will be..
That and the fact i have to jump in a strange truck and go after it being so long since driving one..
I hope it is like riding a bicycle...and i have not forgot...

Ayuh,... It is,.... I can still put a 53'x8,1/2'er into a 9' loading dock, in a jacknife finish...
And, I quit truckin' in the late 80s....;)

Don't worry about it,.... just be Yourself,+ you'll have No problems....

Thanks rbh! It will all be 18 wheelers. 90% local stuff and a few over night runs.
They do have a contract with a carrier for the US Postal Service.I would love to get on with them.It is all drop and hook and the driver never touches the load. They pay for hotels and about 800 a week...Home every other night.
I imagine i will have to work my way up to be considered for that.

Thanks Bond-o......I feel better! I pulled my share of 53 footers and doubles back in the late 80's and early 90's. So i hope it all comes back really fast..;)

I never was a long haul driver, but I sure hauled and set lots of power/tel poles into some ugly places. The tandem digger trucks are about 25/30 foot long, then add a pole trailer with 6-8, 60 foot +- poles and on a pintle hitch,
then start climbing up the side of a mountain to get into a mine site with icey switch backs yuck!!

Nope. The job i go to in the morning is air freight.I arrive at 6 am and the truck will be loaded and waiting.
Not sure how many stops but it will be just bumping docks or drop and pick up.
Thanks for the well wishes guys! It doesn't sound like too bad of a deal but you know how first days can go...:)
