This a pic I have looking down from above motor Port side seat box. Transom is on the left. Thought it might help.
Also I figured out that I got you and Stampeder's Sea Rays switched on my bullitin board and that's how I thought you had the smaller Sea Ray. Sorry bout that.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

LR, I asked this question of SDSeville and I'll probably ask it of others: Can you estimate the current total you have used to date of fiberglass, resin, lumber, adhesives and foam? Are there other materials not listed that put a dent in the budget? I'm about to get started on a similar endeavor and need some ballpark numbers so I neither grossly over buy nor under buy. Thanks for sharing your pictures and descriptions - I especially like the idea of making the floor removable. Where can I learn more about the deck coating you plan to use?

Hooks1,
1 - 50 yrd roll of 8mil tape 4" wide - 27
10 yrds 6 mil 60" wide - 72
10 yrds 8 mil 60" wide - 88
5 sheets 1/2" Blondewood (Lowes) - 165
5 Gals Poly Resin - 155
100 - #6 Stainless Steel Wood screws - 42
100 - Chip Brushes - 10
20 - 3" Laminate rollers for resin - 32
20 Small tubes of PL - 60
Lounge seats - 250
Material for Bow cusions - 125

Thats a whopping 1026.

Plus some tools I didn't have and misc. this that and the other.

I am under my original budget of 2K and I think all I have left is about 200.

Plus all the safety gear and set up which i did not include in budget because it would be the same for any boat I got new or used.

Hope this gets you in the ballpark. A couple of suppliers to find on web is US Composites for the glass and resin - great people and product.

Also Jametown distributors for screws. hinges and hardware.

and for all the other stuff be sure to check out Iboat store lots of good stuff.

Lounge seats $250? Was that one set or both?

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

Thanks for the "shopping list"! As I told SD, I think I will start with a 5-gallon resin kit and add to it if needed. I'm looking forward to learning about fiber glass. I've mixed a lot of epoxy and bondo and some polyester so the chemistry isn't a problem but it appears that layup is more of an art and my attempts at art have been more like Dali than Rockwell. But I get ahead of myself - I still have demo to finish. I have the same problem on every project: I want to move ahead before I finish the current step.

Wow. Great deal on the seats! I have not seen anything like that.

I rebuilt my original seat boxes with some minor changes. I am just going to use those cheap terry cloth covers to get on the water ASAP. I plan on having them reupholstered in Tijuana (only 60 miles south of me) in late September or early October. I should be able to get them both redone down there for about $200.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

Finally an update. After a week and a half of being hijacked by my boss I was able to get back to work on the Ray. Here are a couple pic's of the rear seat boxes and the new base for the engine cowl. Just a dry fit but with all them angles it was not fun or was it?

and a better angle (pun intended)

I did get to Lake Livingston today with my Son in law and 3 of my Grand kids. Spent a good amount of time having fun on the water. Did some fishin. My Son in law caught the only legal size (barely) all day but it was a good day. just not my boat.

Looks great LR! Is that a small seat or a step in front of the engine? Looks like a lot of work. I just did the basic OEM style seats and they were a real pain.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

SD,
That is going to be a small bench seat that can be used as a step to the sun deck above the engine. I still need to work out the engine cowl frame. I got several ideas I just need to settle for one. The hope is that the sun deck is fully accros the stern. The side seats are fold down jump seats. So the plan is to have an insert sundeck from the guwail to the side of the engine cowl that is the same height as the sundeck. It's a bit trick on the cerpentry side but carpentry to me is like breathing. Easy some days hard others but still routine.
The seat boxes will be close to original with cooler on starbord and batter on port. Hope to get this done soon before I loose good weather on the lakes.

Thanks for the compliment. Hows yours coming along?

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

LR,
Mine is coming along OK. I am about a week from being done....same as I was in March. It always seems like I am almost there, but the more I do, the more I realize I have left. I am just finishing up the ski locker. I ran into an issue with the cross member at the bottom of the locker area. I think I might need to re-cut the locker cover a little longer and notch the cross member.

Sounds like you are going to get rid of that folding cushion at the stern. That should look nice and provide a little area to walk on before stepping to the small swim platforms.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

Hi LR...1rst time checkin out yer postings....wow you've been bustin your butt on your off time between work and family .....the SeaRay is coming along nice!

awsome wood work btw.... good call on the seat in frt of the engine box...great for those extra people onboard and for storage of bumpers and such too.... very similar to our Sleek rear interior...you didnt per-chance get the idea from our did ya?? :p lol

your front bowriding area wood work looks like it was alot of work....you certainly nailed it though....great work.....

yeah that foam re-use was a good call...the pour in expand a foam is bookoo expensive and your foam looked like it was OK good to go so why not re-use eh! we did the same with ouor Newman boat project...re-used the foam....ours was bulged a bit so we used a turkey cutter electric knife to flatten out the bumps and such

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

Vegas,
Yep your layout is what got me thinkin a few others as well. I love the sleeks (any model) so naturally I have been reading yours for quite a while. Your vids especially song selection top notch. The wood work has been a trip. I am a bit anal with my wood working (I build Guitars and kitchen cabs on the side) so I dend to be picky. most of the stuff I want to add like lockers and seating is a combo of many ideas I get on this forum. So thanks for the ideas. I too had foam buldging once it was opened up and yep a turkey cutter was used to level it. It also is used to cut my blue foam, the seat pads, even a little bit of vinyl trim off. (I need to get the wife a new one i quess) Foam was good forward but under the deck not so. but its been redone with the blue foam as the pour in was just to expensive and I get scrap foam off my jobsites for FREE.

I am finally at the point where I see lots of water in my future. Feels good.

It means a great deal to me that you have commented on my Ray. Thanks for the compliments.

Wish I was near Lake Mead looks like an awsome place to go.

Yessireebob ...LOTS of water....is this your 1rst boat? if so its about the perfect setup for starting, if not its still a perfect family boat...seats what about 8?
my BrotherInLaw has a similar searay and his hauls butt (4.3L v6 carberated with 19P 4 blade stainless)

Thanks LR you're too kind!

Lake Mead is pretty great....lots of different areas to explore....rocky shorelines, sandy ones, islands and dropoffs, deepwater and shallow its got it all...just wish it had a more natural "lakeness" to it....seeing some of these natural lakes that some of the boys get to boat on sure look nice....plus great bass fishin etc....

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

Vegas,
No not my first boat. I grew up with a 15' lonestar from the 50's still sitten in my back yard. has not seen water since 83. To far gone to fix and it's headed to the landfill. Since then its been other peoples boats. I've wanted to do a restore for sometime and I like the Rays so when I found this one last Christmas well the rest is what it is.
This is a good set up and I got grandkids from 5 to 18 yrs so fishin and skiin and tubin was what they wanted so I am building the Ray to be that functional. For me the fishin part. Don't do enough of that and I love bass fishin Black and Whites and Fly fishin for Trout.
Mine is set up same as you BIL except the prop. We will dial that in once we are on the water.

BTW the 64X vid was fun to watch wish real life work was that quick and the we could slow down for the fun stuff

Later
