Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

Stampeder,

I have got the motor all reset and I really did not take pics of the mounts. I will try later today to take some pic's and post. I assume you have the V6 as the inline 4 has different mounts. I can possibly take some measurements as well. I will try to get some good ones. the mounts are tapered slightly but I really do not think that's important if the towers are built strong.

Stampeder,
Check out SDSeville's link above he shows the mount for the 4 cylinder. Might be what you have. I could not tell from your pic's which motor you have.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

OK Been a while since I updated. Here are some pic's of where I was at the end of June. First is a shot of the bow work ready for paint.

Next is shot of the floor glassed and fitted less the bow floor.

Here is a different angle of the ski locker and removable forward floor

And bow shot with floor.

I have got a lot done but not where I wanted to be. I have the Bow and the deck painted and ready for the seats will get pic's up soon. This has been so far the most demanding yet the most fun project I have done in my 60 years of life. Glad I did it. Just need to get on the water and I will be just fine.

Looks great LR. Great idea with those metal pieces for the front of the ski locker. How much room did you give yourself for floor covering when you cut the removable forward floor piece that covers the gas tank? I am going to cut mine today but want to make sure there is enough room to wrap it with carpet or vinyl (haven't made up my mind yet).

What kind and colour seats are you putting in? Are you keeping the same floor plan as factory layout?

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

SDSeville,
What I did was build 2 bulkheads at the forward end of the tank so that the floor of the tank rest on the one sitting against the tank. That one has a 1 1/2" horizontal piece at it's top going forward and attaches to the second bulkhead which gave me room to wrap carpet and lets the floor rest on more than a 1/2" bulkhead. Since I built it I have changed my mind and am going back with Kiwi Qrip for the floor. I think Carpet is nice but I do not want any more standing water after all this work.

Stampeder,
I am going back in with a 2 tone gray (silverish) with a little red trim. replacing the fold down seating with Wise fold downs with some customizing to them. the Bow will get basically the same treatment except that a removable pedistal fishing seat will be installed on the floor plate and brace you see in the pic.s of the bow. Light gray is the floor sides and basic color with dark gray as the accent color with red trim. This is still a work in progress and will end up very similar to the original.

Ezombee,
Thanks for the compliment. Yes it is solid I just wish I had done a smoother finish so my sanding time would have been shorter. the bow is painted now all sealed up and looking good So I am happy with it. Next project I will spend more time on the finish glass layer. What am I saying? I must be nuts, next project. Sorry for my moment of insanity.

LR:

I think the floor work you have done so far is really great. Good work.

I sent you a PM the other night. You and I have the same boat. Even the same red and white colouring. Check out my post that I just updated ( I started it about 3 years ago).

I could really use some help with some pictures of the stern of your boat. My stern support frames on either side of the engine that hold the top cushions that are hinged to the stern are almost completely rotted away and I need to see how the originals are shaped so I can replicate them. The flip back cushio is still there although the wood is rotted so I at least have it for a pattern. The port side wood on the battery comparment is badly rotted as well as the starboard side piece that separates the live well and the engine compartment.

Another question concerning the ski locker. I'm seriously considering not putting this back. What are your thoughts on it?

I really like your colour scheme. I too am thinking of grey for carpeting, but I am really partial to blue so I would like to change the current red to blue.

By the way, I live just up the road a ways. I live just outside of Golden, Tx. It's about 6 miles from Mineola.

Cheers.
Glenn.

Good idea. I think I will add a piece at the top of the tank for added floor support as you did.

I am wary of carpet also. However, I do not believe my glasswork will be nice enough to paint with non-skid coating. I am leaning toward marine vinyl decking. It is waterproof, non skid, and should cover any minor imperfections in my work.

Stampeder,

Yep know where you are. Fished a couple of lakes up there at Emory can't remember the names but nice lakes.

what most non Texans don't understand is that when they say up the road a bit they mean 10 or 20 miles. When we say it we mean 1 or 2 hundred miles. It,s like next door.

As far as the stern area mine has been removed and all that is there is the motor. I am planing on doing it differently. i will look through all my pics and will see if I have some before I destroyed the old stuff and will post on your thread.

as far as the ski locker you really should at least have some kind of hatch for inspection and access for drying.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

Thanks for the compliment Tink. I got the bow painted just need some pics to post. It looks good but I know where the flaws are LOL. Struggling in this heat though and makes for very slow work. Plan on updating with new pics this week end.

I saw your trailer pics the other day and wow nice work. Trailer for me waits till I can float the boat for a day or two as I have no way to lift the boat. Trailer just needs some TLC and new Rollers. May at some point change to bunks as thats a better way to support a hull. Anyway waiting on your updates. Later

Shiner B,
Have not progressed much passed what you see except that the main floor is in and painted. the stern is still a work in progress. Had some health issues that keep me from doing the big stuff so I am little behind where I want to be. Will post this week end as I plan on getting back to work on the boat and maybe get something done. Glad you like the work so far. To pass on a little wisdom to ya, take your time, to it right, enjoy the process regardless of the rocks in the road. In the end it's your boat, you built it, sail on.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

LR,

I am working on the stern right now and it is much more difficult than I expected. I should have taken more pictures and measurements before I tore everything apart. I will take some pictures when I get it all worked out -- should be this weekend.

I did notice when looking at your pics that you hull must be the 16'6" with an 84" beam. Mine is 18.6 with a 90" beam. Thats why your looks much narrower to me in the stern. It still has the same basic concept though. I too am having some difficulty working things out. So don't panic just take your time. I wish now I had taken better measurments. I thought I did a fair job but now that I am building it seems I could have done better. I am approaching this with the hope of getting a good sized sun deck on the back we will see.

Anyway good luck keep me posted on what you get figured out.

Re: 87 Sea Ray Seville Restore

LR,

Actually, mine is 18'6" also. I guess the cell phone cam doesn't give a very good picture.

I am going with the original design for the stern. I think I got the seats done, but can't quite figure out whether I got the width correct. Do you have any measurements? I am not quite sure how far the doghouse is supposed to stick out. Does the lower part of the doghouse butt up against the edges of the seats or slide further back between them?

Thanks,

SD

The pic makes it look skinny. anyway. the sides of the engine cover originaly sat on top of the seat box. then offset down to the floor and forward just enough to cover the fuel tank fill lines. It angled over to the front a bit also. you can see that in my earlier post. There was a carpet covered board at the back of the seat boxes about 6" in front of the transome that the cover stopped at. I am at work right now but I do have some measurments at the house on the width of the seat boxes. I didnot measure the actual seat as I was going another way but I have the seat box diminsions and will post later tonight.
I really did not like how much wasted space the doghouse had in front of the engine so I am hoping to tighten up some. Since you do have the 18' then what I have in diminsions should help.

Here we go. lets stand in the boat and look at the motor. The seat boxes are 23" from inside of the hull to the outside of the box next to motor. This dimension is taken at 12" exactly above the old floor. this is the top of the box.

the box front to back outside measures 22 1/4" the back face is at 3 3/4" forward from the face of the inside transom at the floor. This should give you the box.

The port box has a cut out on motor side for vent tube and wiring plus the trim unit. that only needs to be open enough for the equipment and stuff. one key dimension is the side of the seat boxes sit 4 1/8" from the inside edge of the bildge. this may vary based on your stringer location.

basically there is 33 1/2" clear for the motor cover seat box to seat box.

hope this gets you get going and helps find your locations.

anything else let me know.
