Oil pressure sending unit?

Hi there,
Had a great day on the lake today with the boat, thanks for all of those that help get that pesky water temp sending unit out. Use the right tools, and work is easier! Gauge worked fine.

So, I was thinking that maybe the oil pressure sending unit is OEM. The boat is a 1986 CC 210, with a 260hp Mercruiser, Alpha one.

What type of oil pressure should I be seeing???
It shows around 40lbs @ 5000rpm ( full throttle) and I was think that you should see 10lbs of pressure for every 1000 rpms. Maybe the old sender is not accurate?

How often do these things need to be changed? Any advice is greatly appreciated and I hope you all have a great weekend.

Re: Oil pressure sending unit?

Anyone have a opinion on how often to replace the oil sending unit?
Thanks in advance,

Never had to replace one because it was bad. Only replaced them because they leak oil.

Sounds like you have very normal oil pressure for a 24 year old motor. The 10PSI/1000 RPM is just a rule of thumb. Some run less some run more. Engine oil viscosity, engine temp, oil pump, and rod/main bearing clearances all have a bearing on oil pressure. An engine that idles with as little as 5 -10 PSI but shows 30 - 40 PSI at higher rpm will run a very long time.
