Actually I am I just listed the 4 stroke motors since in North America we can no longer buy 2 stroke engines New
You actually have an inflatable with a 40hp motor on it? How big is it and how do you move it? Maybe I should add a disclaimer about the motor being portableI have a 40hp Evinrude 2 stroke hanging off the back, and this poll completely skipped anything above 25hp. I take offense to it excluding me![]()

Is one 2 stroke and the other one 4 stroke? 4 stroke motors are heavy. We have to be carefull adding all that weight to at transomeI have a 6hp but just bought a 5hp to try on the Kaboat.. It is the model with internal gas tank.. Weighs 20lbs less than the 6hp..
Weimed We may need to start another thread after this forum software is fixed , just going into detail on 2 stroke vs 4 stroke engines. That was my initial mindset when I started this post and the What type of motor post. The problem with 2 stroke vs 4 stroke comes into play when you are trying to setup your boat. Since most boats are made outside of North America the horse power rating is really for 2 stroke motors. The spec should really be. Total weight on transom. It is amazing to me what some consider portable. It might be an age thing. If one person can not lift the motor by themselves then to me it is not portable. There is a huge difference between having a trailer and not having a trailer For the purpose of carrying in your car that would mean the largest 4 stroke you could use by yourself is 9.9hp. That weighs in at 92 pounds The next weight up is 15hp or 20 hp which both weigh 104 pounds. Once you get to 104 pounds you probably have a trailer You need a motor dolly to carry 104 pounds It's not a bad idea at 92 pounds A 9.9hp 4 stroke weighs more than a 15hp 2 stroke A 15 hp 2 stroke weighs about 77 pounds You are looking at 92 pounds for the 4 stroke vs 77 pounds for the 2 stroke That is a difference of 15 pounds and 5hp That doesn't even take into account the additional torque on the transom for that 4 stroke motorRonald, when someone is shopping for a 4stroke send them to me, I have enough Horror stories to have people think long and hard before buying a 4stroke. Don't get me wrong (knock on wood) I love my 15 merc this baby has done be justice so far but the weight costs me to have my outboard in my car for weeks before i decide to bring it upstairs. It is still in my car from last wednesday when i went out lol. I know this sounds terrible but i will say it anways. Sometimes i wish for someone to break into my car and steal the 15 so i can buy either buy a brand new honda 20 which weights 104lb or buy a 2 stroke older engine which weights 80lbs. BOTTOM LINE: I towed 2 people already with 2 strokes and when everyone is out of gas i still have more then half a tank. I think i will need to carry 2 stroke oil in my bow bag to keep sinister on the water for a bit longer lol. (SHOTS FIRED) LOL
Depends on conditions and load of course. My boat is setup for scuba diving, so the prop is a lower pitch. I also have a wing on the outboard that probably takes a mile or two off the top end. So with a light load, and rough water conditions, I top out at 28mph.Hey Peter, what kind of speed do you get at wot on that zodiac?
