Yes to all the safety equipment! No gloves though....I just wash em when I get home. 8) all I found for grit is the 40. I'll look around tomorrow. Wood, I hadn't tried that set up. ...I don't have an old tennis shoe either. Home depot?

Anything Rubber will work to clean the resin build up off the discs. You just grind on the rubber and it'll clean the resin right off if you do it soon after it clogs. Got a Harbor Freight nearby?? They usually have the 24 or 36 grit Resin Coated discs and the backup pad.

I never used the flapper disks, either. The 24 grit resin coated discs worked best for me. I maybe changed 'em too often, but digging into the old stuff with a fresh, sharp disc made the grinding a bit less unpleasant. (bottom line, though, is that grinding SUX!)

I used the 40 grit flapper disks ...... maybe that's why it took me all last summer to grind out my hull. Either way I have to agree, grinding SUX!

You might want to think about whether you want to drill that many 'rivet' holes... I think it's way more than needed, and I'd be worried about weakening that nice big hunk of wood you just made. If you drill 1/2" holes along that grid, you'll have compromised all plies in a nice straight line in both the north-south and east-west directions. Better to stagger them in a random pattern.

Also, you really only need a few holes for the PB to ooze thru; 5 or 6 would probably be plenty.

Having read this, I felt JAS made a good point. My original post in the link did state that I suggested drilling a FEW 1/2" OOZE holes and NOT drilling Every screw hole to 1/2" but I did not make that clear. I kind of see his point. However once the holes are filled with resin and the wood is clamped flat against the transom and the PB hardens the wood and PB will become "ONE UNIT and combined with the two or more layers of resin and Biaxial fabric tying everything to the hull, I'm convinced there won't be any danger that 2 inches of Fiberglass and Plywood will be structurally sound enuf to withstand any forces placed on it by the outdrive. However...I have updated my link and the drawing to reflect the recommendation of a FEW 1/2" holes and NOT drilling out ALL of the screw holes in the transom. Thanks JAS for Pointing this out. It was NOT my original intention.;):D

P.S. This spring I'm gunna do a Structural Integrity test with PB and 1/2" holes and 2" of Laminated Plywood using Titebond III so STAY TUNED!!! it should be.

Wood, you're right: drilling all those holes maybe would not cause a problem, but why do anything that possibly could compromise the strength in both the north-south and east-west directions? Especially when it would take no effort to avoid it?

(For the record, I know your intention in describing transom construction doesn't suggest drilling that many PB ooze holes. I must have read that section of yours on transom replacement a hundred times!)

Just the same, I APPRECIATE your pointing this out! I always want to be as clear as possible in my instructions, but...being an Old Dumb Okie, I'm somewhat limited in my abilities to do so!!!!:D:lol:

Hey Now... Just wondering I did not see a response I think. Did you do a core/drill test on the motor mounts. I recall you saying they were ok. I mean your going so hard at it why not just put in new?

I tried splitting up the 12 holes as much as I could. I put them in the spots around the core where I can see how the bond is everywhere.

See all the dust in the background of my pics? Its covered everything! I'm going to give the core a couple coats of resin tomorrow. Pretty excited to pay with my new epoxy I've never used in my life.
