Privacy screening a bimini top?

Anyone ever do this?

We spent 8 hours on the water in our little Kingfisher last weekend trying to catch some fish. During that time, my wife had to go ashore twice in order to go potty. That meant that we had to pull up anchor or stop trolling with the electric motor and head landward... sometimes using the "big" motor in order to make haste!

And of course my lovely bride would prefer to not have to climb onto land where there may be water moccasins and alligators!

So this afternoon during some waiting time I got to thinking about the issue. My original thought (Hope! :D ) was to get a bigger boat with a porta potty onboard. That option shall remain ON the table! Heh heh.

However, it occurred to me that when we eventually install a bimini top that perhaps we could permanently affix some velcro tape or something along the edges then temporarily hang some opaque sheets or beach towels or whatnot to provide some privacy for m'lady. We wouldn't leave the shields attached all the time, just when necessary.

She could be hidden inside. I'd be forward and the boy would be aft, both of us still fishing instead of having down time while traveling to shore and waiting.

What do y'all think? Anyone done something similar?

You can even buy clips for holding beaching towels, etc., on bimini bars. You could easily bring a few sheets along and clip them to the bimini for a bit of cheap, impromptu privacy.

Maybe she could get a huge dress like a tent to slip on?

I think you need to focus on the tabled option.... I just can't imagine many women doing the do with their husband and child both only a couple feet and a thin curtain away.

sounds like it's three of ya. ma, pa, and the boy. my idea will mean ya teach the boy some respect. like look the other way. the main part of my idea is your bailing bucket.

that's mine, a folgers coffee can, plastic. my ol lady uses it all the time. the pic is on the speed boat. i use it in my canoe too. rather, both of us use the bailing bucket, in both boats.
ya just get lower than the gunnels of the boat for yer privacy. anyone on board, needs to have respect........
it's boating imho...... ya loose some privacy while on a boat. and when ya gotta go, the bailing bucket has came through untold times for me and my ol lady......

obviously, two would be a little different. we've not tried that. we go ashore at that point....

agree with others too. ya can get creative with cloths pins and beach towels from the bimini.....

Cool! Will have to look into those.

You can buy an enclosure that attaches to your bimini if you don't feel like making one.

My wife wants to know if the hot bikini babe comes with the screen! :jaw:

Nahh... she's not gonna do that.

Am still working this option as well! But nobody is leaving a deuce on the little boat! It's #1 or nothing!

Bailing bucket has been discussed and might work in a pinch, but it's the privacy that counts the most, whether it's a bucket or a porta-potty.

Still researching options here. Appreciate all the great replies thus far! :joyous:

Heh heh. Fer sure...

One option that I have considered is to install a porta-potty inside the console of a center console boat. Had a neighbor with a 25' Bayliner that was so equipped and it was a pretty nice feature.

A 25 footer doesn't match our wants/needs but I might be able to rig up such a system in an 18 or 20 footer. Maybe. But going to a different boat leads to the question of why not just get another boat with a cuddy in the first place.

Our current 16 footer doesn't have room enough for that option. And moving up to a 20' cuddy cabin boat doesn't meet our small water fishing needs. Hence the quandary.

I'd say the swim platform on our boat had been used way more times as a potty aid instead of its intended purpose. Just put the ladder down and lower yourself in. The 3yo boy isn't afraid to lay a deuce either.

Uh, no. Got gators and sharks around here!

And while we can fish year round here the water temps do get cold enough such that nobody would want to enter the wet stuff.

We have had good success with the toilet in the picture below. Ours is in a 21' open runabout. I've never been impressed with most cuddys that reduce the available activity space, though they admittedly provide a good place to sleep. They're OK as long as you're able to crawl forward which is no longer an option for this old phart. There are more details in the link in my signature below. - Grandad

Abit hard to see, but the ladies just love the genuine imitation leather lined inlet to the urinal, it's soft on the inner thighs,...
Bein' an ole antifreeze jug, it's narrow, 'n easy for feminine use,....
