Broke Gear Lube Connector in Gimbal Housing Assembly - What do I need to order?

Hi,

Looks like I broke off the plastic connector for the gear lube in the gimbal housing assembly.

I knew I had to be careful (reading the forums), but I hadn't even started trying to pull the hose and I noticed gear fluid leaking (and I looked and the hose was disconnected/broke off).

Looks like it was when I tried to turn part of the outer gimbal housing assembly (twisted it), so I could gain access to the trim limit/sender to replace it.

Anyhow, not sure what part(s) I need to replace it.
The one on the outdrive is part metal (brass I believe) and part plastic (plastic broke). I believe they are all plastic now (from the forums). But there are 3 pieces and not sure I need them all - not sure if you need to replace more than just the part in the gimbal housing?

outdrive serial number OL98XXXX, alpha one gen II

Not sure which part number I need.
Do I only need 861150T02? Or is it 22-18922?? (18922 still appears to be available).

I'd rather go with the brass - not sure it's any easier to swap out (18922 looks to be all brass? mine is a mix, brass/plastic tip??)

If its 8611150T02 do I also require 861163? (gear lube monitor connector?) Not sure if the connector goes into the engine compartment side (inside) or the gimbal housing side? (external)
I don't believe my existing brass one has an E-clip so I assume I need one as well?

Assuming I have to go with 861150T02, if it's all been replaced with plastic, I'm unsure if I have to swap out the whole thing? Or if there is just a piece I can replace the broken part located in the gimbal housing?

Attached are the pictures of the gimbal housing and Lube Connector (just to the top right side of the U-Bellows)

Note: I jammed some wipes below the connector in question to stop the fluid from coming out (so that's why it's there - that's all I had handy).

thanks

Unless you have a problem removing the connector (861163) on the inside of the boat as it is plastic as well, you shouldn't need it.

The E-Clip can be hard to re-install and easily get's lost....That mentioned, some install it on the first try. You'll need an extra one if you don't have it with you.;)

You'll need to order the fitting 861150T02.

What is the condition of the hose where it broke off? 32-8M0062600 Item number 12, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...=1943&bnbr=330&bdesc=OIL+RESERVOIR+COMPONENTS

=======================================

Thanks for you help. The hose is fine, except that it has part of the plastic piece that broke off inside (I did buy a replacement hose, so have a new spare).

I haven't looked inside the boat yet at the inside connector, so not sure if it's plastic (I assumed it was the same as the external part, combination of brass and plastic?) That's why I thought maybe I needed 861163 as well (that it was a whole new plastic assembly and perhaps you couldn't mix and match brass/plastic with all plastic.

Thanks for your response.

I have - the issue is that there appears to be older and newer parts.
For example, the new are all plastic.
The existing on on my gimbal housing is brass and plastic (plastic where it connects to the hose).
Then I found older ones that are all brass (still available).

It's all a bit confusing - just trying to confirm what's needed.
I'm in the Toronto area - it's getting cold quick - so trying to resolve this before winterizing (closing up the lakehouse for the year and putting the boat away). Only have a few days left to do so (so trying to confirm parts are accurate).

thanks,

The bell housing end should be a brass fitting.

See if this helps any, Gimbal Housing Oil Reservoir Bulkhead Fitting -Material Change

Pages 4A-42 - 47 should help explain the two styles as well, http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/manuals/mercruiser14.html#/414

If your drive was made after 1998 then you should have the plastic design (< glass filled composite material) which has been known to appear to be a brass fitting before removal.

Item numbers 34 & 35 in the following link are for the newest design that has a quick connect between the reservoir and transom assembly....Which is numbers 16 & 17 in the image below. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...=2686&bnbr=270&bdesc=OIL+RESERVOIR+COMPONENTS
