Hello, new here. Been using this site for alot of information and decided to join since I've been having issues lately.
For some insight I've owned this boat for 8 years now, and restored the boat 3 years back. It's a 14 foot extra deep/wide Jon boat with a 25 horse mariner on back.
At the end of last season while on the water my starter seem to have gave out on me. So I finally just now got it out of storage, to my new house, and am trying to get it fixed.
The motor is a mariner 28e 664 s 271316.
From what I've read I think that it was made in 1979?
Now from digging around on here I think I have it narrowed down to the starter solenoid. Reason being, when hitting the start button the flywheel doesn't rotate and I do not hear the solenoid engage. Further investigation I do not find 12v to the little terminal on the solenoid. (I do have 12v on the feed coming to it from the battery. ) Does that all sound correct?
If so, it looks like the solenoid is the problem.
Now, I have the starter pulled and went to remove the bottom cap (solenoid), but it appears to have a black wire running through it that was attached to the other terminal post (negative) along with one that came from the starter itself.
So what would be the proper way to remove the solenoid?
I've been searching the net to find a new solenoid but have had a hard time trying to find the right one. Can anyone point me to where I could find one?
All help is appreciated! I'll see if I can't get some photos up as well.
