So after being a long time reader on this forum and after following many of your projects finally registered and now showing the first of one of two builds i,m starting this winter.

I.m busy with a friends 2001 Campion 535 Allante vri with a Mercruiser 3.0lx 135 hp four cylinder.

Little history on this project first:
My previous employer took this boat and trailer in as a trade in on a motorhome, it was abandoned in the marina for two years with a torn up cover on it and was submerged for about 2/3 almost up to the rubrail.
It was then put back on the trailer and stored on the hard for a while.

After my previous boss took the boat as a trade in i hooked up my buddy who was looking for a small family boat project to go boating.

Whe first started with disassembling everything cos everything ws beyond dirty. Got the engine out wich i,ll tell you later about, and then stripped out everything till the bare bones.
Convinced my buddy to pull the deck cause i knew that everything was rotten and water logged from the rubrail down.

We are currently busy with ripping out the partially rotten floor and tons and tons of foam, kind of amazes me everytime how much junk comes out of a boat this size!. Already took me 2 trips to the landfill and still not done.

Onething that really stumps me is that with how minimal extra effort Campion could have really made this a better quality boat, really corners where cut everywhere....ridiculously long screws, no back plated hardware, resin starved fiberglass, partially glassed stringers and the list goes on.

We plan to build it back up from the hull up using quality materials everwhere and make it look like new hopefully.

Still a long way to go as i,m helping him while being busy with my other project my 1994 Wellcraft 210 eclipse wich i,ll be giving the same treatment.

I,m going to start a new topic about my own boat later on.

Will be trying to upload photos as i figure out how to do it, not very handy with these kind of things😀

Unfortunately that type of build quality is normal in older boats, its gotten a bit better over the years.

Yup looks like workers did not take too much pride in their work. I think the average diy er can do a much better job than the factory did.

Next thing id like to know is how to post pics so that you can see them when you scroll down my thread instead of having to open them first!

I'm not sure about Flikr, but with Photobucket I copy the direct pic link and paste it in between the text where I want it to show as if it was a whole new paragraph by itself. Then I add the IMG tags (lower case is fine for this) directly in front of and behind the pic link. You need to open and close the square brackets around the word IMG at both ends. Just before the IMG tag at the end, you need to add a forward slash like this -> /IMG . I saved showing you the square brackets for last because if I put them together in the text above like they are supposed to be around the pic link, the forum software tries to process the words between it like it's a pic and makes it all disappear and/or gives me an error.
Square bracket (open) -> [
Square bracket (close) -> ]

SAMPLE: (IMG)your pic link here(/IMG)
Just replace the parenthesis in the sample with the corresponding square brackets.

Hope that helps. There's probably an easier way, but this way works for me.

Just copy and paste IMG link from photobucket into the post, nothing more needs to be done.

What method is best for removing the old capet glue from the sides?? Have been trying brake cleaner and laquer thinner but that doesnt seem to to work.

I hope to be done with the deconstruction phase before winter sets in, been sanding and shoveling out the foam outside my shop to keep the dust out and i dont like doing that in sub zero temps!

What do you all think is the best way to patch a small corrosion pit in the fuel tank?
The tank is in very good condition apart from one small pitt in the bottom the size of a dollarcent.
Welding or using some kind of epoxy over it?

I found that the best and fast way to remove the carpet residue was to grind it lightly with the same 40 grit flap wheel I used when grinding down the old glass inside of the boat. I figured I was making a mess anyway so why not keep going. JMHO

friscoboater went thru a bunch of flappy discs and all sorts of products trying to get rid of the glue before finding mek takes it off in a flash - wipe on, wipe off.

gsxrdan, I remember seeing that in friso's thread but when I did it I only used a worn 40 grit flapper because I did not want to be too aggressive on the thin sides of the boat. The stuff came right off although it was as messy and itchy as grinding the hull. I guess it's either a itchy grind job or a gooey mek job LOL.
