It was the gasket right under the wear plate I don't know how I didn't catch it until now because I even replaced the wear plate but what happen was the kit came with 2 of the same gaskets o though it was just a mistake then realized it had a different part number so I call the seller and spoke with them about it and they overnighted me the correct gasket installing it now to see if there is a difference. Will check back in a bit. Thanks guys

Well no difference there but I am noticing water coming out of the gear selector hole is that normal? I just put the whole Lower unit in water and fashioned a hose with clamps to the driveshaft and a drill and with the drill on low the water comes out pretty good on high it shoots about 3 to 4 feet in the air so do I just eliminate the pump as an issue?

Perhaps look at the water tube and seal found at the top of the tube.----Posted about that some time ago.

How do you get a look at that tube do you have to pull the powerhead?

Also when attaching a hose to the water tube I get a stronger more steady stream from the tell tale and water to the thermostat housing?? I'm really confused with this motor!

Perhaps test the tell tale in the lake !----There is a difference in lake water verses domestic hose water.-----Also can be a lot of exhaust in a test bucket.

If the Lower-unit is still off, inspect the tube going into the power head.
you should be able( with a flashlight ) look up into the mid section towards the power head
(city water pressures are around 65 psi and the velocity is way higher)

Question,

when you have the lower-unit off, is the tube (leading to the power head) in the pump housing OR in the power head?

check the O-ring/bushing that is in the water pump housing where the tube slides in

It is in the powerhead. I have looked up in the water tube cant really see much. There is only one seal for the water tube on the housing and it is in good shape. Do you guys really think taking it to a lake would make that much if a differnece because I'm honing to have a hour drive to take it to a lake where I live plenty of lakes closer bit all have motor restrictions.

If the boat is still on the trailer do the restrictions apply during your testing ?

I would honestly have to contact dnr to find that out. Someone said this was a thru hub exhaust but to me it seems like the exhaust is on the back if the motor 2 holes in the video please correct me if I'm wrong because I don't really notice exhaust bubbling much in the bucket?

Also would removing the head give me a pretty solid look through all the water jackets

the two holes on the back are to regulate the back-pressure when running in not in gear, the moment the motor runs in forward-gear the lower-unit & prop creating a vacuum; drawing the exhaust fumes/pressure through the prop

I will do that I am also going to grab some decent muffs to verify exhaust water today. Also does the water reach the tell tale or the thermostat first? I can't find a flow diagram on this motor anywhere.

Those 2 holes are the exhaust relief.-----Saves the motor from having to push the exhaust all the way down to the prop area.----Exhaust will come out those 2 holes in neutral and in gear too.

Alright guys I retract one of my previous statements I just ran the motor for a minute and removed the thermostat housing to make sure water was getting to that point and it never did but oddly the tell tale picked up just a bit where before it was kinda a dribble spit it was a light steady stream? What now?

I'm 99.9 % sure; through the thermostat first and if not we'll get to hear it.

okay, so you can conclude from this; the thermostat is either not opening enough OR you are not waiting long enough for it to open.

I watched your video and to me it looks like the thermostat is not open all the way (yet??) and the amount of water coming out is not going to "cook" your motor, if I saw the majority being steam; you would!
a temperature-gun is such a nice tool

I do have a temp gun now what I mean is I removed the thermostat poppet valve and the cover then started the motor to see if water ever got there and it didn't bone dry inside the housing after over 1 minute but there was water coming from the tell tale so it's almost like the passage way to the thermostat is blocked.
