Hey all,
I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with the tilt trim and I'm having trouble with some of the wording people use to fill the reservoir. To fill the trim system some say full up position some say tilt it up. etc. I'm trying to determine if I'm filling the thing correctly or if there's another issue.
My issue is My engine was stuck in the up position so I used the manual release valve to relieve the pressure and drop the engine. Later found that the tilt pump plug was out some causing the issue. Then noticed the O-ring was shot on the valve so now it's leaking. I removed it and put a new O-ring in and stopped the leak. The motor now no longer goes up and down. The tilt trim rams won't move the motor up. If I raise the motor by hand and brace it there, the tilt rams will come up. I remove the brace and the motor comes right down. I can lower the motor while on top of the rams but not back up. Is this a pump issue, a filling, issue, or a stuck check valve? When filling, I manually lifted the motor all the way as high as it could go, braced it on a trash barrel, then raised the tilt trim rams to fully out. pumped fluid in till over flowing then with the motor still braced, raised and lowered the rams in and out, filling each time in the full extended position. if this is the proper method how much fluid should it take? More than a quart? I know this is wordy but I really need help with this. Thanks!
