Need quick help: The Tilt Support Bar on my Etec wont move after tilting engine up, due out tomorrow!

As per above, even with engine fully tilted up, it cannot be moved to either side, it feels firmly stuck, unless I am doing something wrong, but on it, it just says to move left or right, with engine up, I cannot move it either way all of a sudden. Am I meant to pull it out first?

Here is a picture of it, but even with engine fully tilted up I cannot dislodged this Tilt Support Bar.

For some reason the Trim Support Lever (which is original but different to the manuals), will not move left or right to its correct position to be out of the way for the engine to be trimmed down for normal use.

how about some spray lubricants to release rusted stuff. Teflon sprays are great but plain old WD40 should do


and when your done it is like the other rusting....wire brush it, prime it paint it wax it

Often you have to go up first to get clearance for that to go out of the way.-----Or maybe the trim limit switch is the issue.-----Seems strange that it would lock up in storage.

Of course, that is what I said, I tilted the engine up. Lol, Im not stupid.

I did tilt up of course. But yes, it is strange it is locked up in that position, for no reason. I see no rust or corrosion.

That was my next course of action haha. Maybe hammer it up to reverse what tilting down on it does and then try hammering the handle sideways.

Only reason didnt want to try harmer is in case it has some kind of spring catch system and if i hit it the wrong way it might snap that system.

Yep, didnt help. I wonder if trimming it down too much by prior owner to make sure it was being supported has some how made it bent or unable to operate. Thing is its impossible to see the pin or the springs etc to figure that out.

Yes I think the prior owner trimmed it down too far and has bent the support levers, not sure how to fix that.
Wish I had a service manual :-(

have you tried an impact driver 1/4 inch type ... not the big ones .... wd-40 + impact ... it may turn the bolt head .... try impacting both directions keep it soaked with wd-4- or equivalent products


try some heat directly on the bolt head .... or freeze shock it with a can of keyboard spray can held upside down.....

There are no springs or pins supporting the weight of the motor. The plastic knobs rest on the port and starboard brackets.



See the arrows on the end of the lever? No pulling or pushing, the lever flips - Have you tried that?

You mean a socket wrench? (thats what we call them in Aus/NZ). Which side, the starboard side doesnt have a handle, just the lever, it also has an open bolt, where the port side where the lever is, is flush to the end of the pin/bolt that goes through the engine bracket.

I think you mean the port side where the actual lever is (it has a little rubber handle), this side, the bolt is flush with the end of the lever, not sure how it is held on actually.

When you say impacting, what does this mean in plain english (sorry i know things are lost in english depending on region, funnily enough English is a Western Germanic Dialect)

Yes, only moves with a hammer. My suspicion is prior owner had tlted it down too hard onto the support levers. The Starboard side I have freed up a little by loosening the bolt, but this port side as above with the handle, just wont budge unless with a hammer. It was working when I bought it. I suspect some how the actual levers are bent, but without a service manual I do not know how to take this handle side off and tap the main pin/spindle out to check how bent everything is.
