Did you measure/set the shift rod height?
When I took it off, it took 7 turns to take off the wing nut, when I put it back on, turned it 7 times when I put it backDid you measure/set the shift rod height?
Hydro-mechanical, as far as i know. The control box has 1978 stamped on it, assuming it was the original, and not sure it would work with another LU. It also takes over a quart of LU oil to fill up, and from what i can tell the only one that does is that particular 150849S LU.Is the lower unit a ---" hydro -mechanical "-----Oil pressure assisted shifting ?----Or has it been converted to a newer style mechanical shift?
Too late now. I will try to deal with that after i get the control box situation fixed. You have to measure the rod height not turns
I had asked this elsewhere, including ebay sellers, who have specifically that it won't work with the '78 150849sA 1995 control box with the red plug will work on your motor !
I don't know, as the control box doesn't shift forward. When it goes into reverse, it appears to go forward, but I don't have a point of reference to compare.Answer this question.----When you shift your ---" power pilot "----to FORWARD does the cable pull linkages to the front of the motor, yes or no ??----For REVERSE does the ----" power pilot " ---push linkages to the rear of the motor ?
So what about the cables? Do they fall connect the same? Not sure why people just trying to confuse me. Thanks for clarifying. So in theory is could use a new control box, with wiring harness ?Never mind then-----The control boxes all operate the same way !!----The different motion for shift rod is done with linkages on the MOTOR. -----The control boxes all move the same way.
I bought a brand new omc control box and wiring harness and new cables, but the new cables didn't seem to work.Correct----Sorry, I can not see , feel or hear your motor.-----If modifications have been made from factory original.-----If I had an original 1978 V-6 ( I have more than one V-6 ) then I would use a 1995 control box.---Basically plug and play !!----End of the story.
