I have a 2005 Yamaha F80. Fuel Injection Four Stroke. I started it up after sitting for a while and a rubber burning smell came from the lower unit. I removed the lower unit. To pull the driveshaft out you have to remove a circlip which seems to retain some sort of seal. This seal was melted. I don't know why. The seal seems to bed up against a metal collar. When removing the remnants of the seal, bits of metal came away from the collar. My question is why would this seal melt and is this metal collar replaceable or part of the seal? It was run with muffs and pumped water fine.
