Are they supposed to be engine alignment tools? Usually it is an alignment bar.

You are missing quite a few parts from it like the alignment bar. Thise pieces are the drivers that pin to the bar to install the grease seal, gimbal bearing, and bellows retaining ring on alpha gen 2 drives .
the bar is used to check alignment, then you put on one the drivers and use a hammer to install the bearing etc

I am unsure about that small straight piece. My drive isn't alpha 2 drive so will these work. I have purchased the bellows kit and it came with bearing as well

Small straight round stock is used with bellow expander tool (upper left in pic u attached ) to expand and hold in place the exhaust bellows to bell housing. The small rod goes through the bellows expander and holds the tool in the exhaust port of the bell housing while expanding the bellows to stretch the exhaust bellows into place so you can glue and clamp it. Probably you tube videos of bellows replacement where u will see this in use.

did the alignment tool and bellows expander come with it ?

Yes and a hinge pin tool
Ok they weren’t shown in original pic, i think on some of the kits you need to drill the hole in the alignment tool for the driver ‘pucks’ to fit on. The key thing with the gimbal bearing to to make sure you are only driving on the outer race and it is fully seated. Ive done it with a 1” wooden dowel and 3” pvc pipe And a BFH

i think so but bearing may have been superseded since then So I’m not sure.

You must have an early MC-1 with the snap ring holding in the bearing. A little before i was turning wrenches.
@Bondo or @Bt Doctur would probably be able to assist with that

Yes It's old alpha drive.
Snap ring predated the alpha drive, M/MR/alpha gen one ( all more or less the same drive) will fit on an MC1 transom housing, a common replacement

maybe post some pics of drive and transom assy so folks know what you are working with.

Yup, the snap ring is no longer needed. Installed many without, no returns.

So when I get parts I go for mc-1. Not prealpha or alpha 1 then right

Best to order by serial number of the drive should be on the side near the vent plug on the upper as even within drive families there are differences.

The street term pre-alpha just refers to any drive made before the alpha one, the MC-1 predates the R, MR, and Alpha one. The MC-1 was made from like 1967 -1981 ish with some variations in that time period .

see this for full drive history
