Fuel filter and hose questions

Can anyone recommend an in-line filter to use on my 1990 carbureted 4.3l Merc alpha one? Does it have to be marked USCG approved? Also required fuel hose markings ? Will automotive fuel line meet the requirements of USCG?

Ayuh,..... The fuel line needs to be Coast Guard approved, 'n will say so, on the fuel line,.....

An in-line fuel filter is 'bout useless on a boat motor, as particulate contamination is rarely the problem, but water is most always the problem,....
Therefor, a canister type water separating fuel filter is the best answer, mounted 'tween the tank, 'n the fuel pump,....

Ideally you want metal line between the fuel pump & carb or EFI, and yes a canister fuel filter between the tank & fuel pump. If you can’t use metal line between the pump & carb/EFI Sierra does make a flex line that is approved for this use.

I'm just looking to tie my new canister water and fuel filter to my fuel pump about 12". I cant seem to find any USCG approved fuel line on line or in my area without buying 10ft length. All of the local boat yards have closed up.
