Excessive fuel during fuel filter change

Hi all, I was in the process of changing a fuel filter on a VP 300-gi-J and it felt like fuel was just pouring out with no end in sight. I got about 700ml or so that came out in the process before I panicked and put the filter back on. Now I recently ran the motor to change the oil. Is it possible I just had to wait an extended period for any pressure to dissipate? Any other solutions or causes to this?? Thanks! Happy winterization to anyone taking care of business this time of year.

If your fuel filter is below the fuel tank pickup fitting, and you don't have a antisiphon valve on the pickup, it will siphon the tank dry.

Is this the fuel filter bolted onto the side of the engine, or is it a pre filter before that ?

Well I went the route of pinching the fuel line, then changing them out.

I've never had this issue before, but the boat is on a slight incline now that it is on blocks so that may be the cause.

I can't see the anti-siphon being removed, but who knows.. maybe one was never put on..

It looks like a barbed fitting but has a spring a ball inside it
