Obviously a Merc V6. Since it has the clamshell cowling, that makes it late 80s or earlier. Most common were 150HP, but there were 135HP and 175HP motors in V6 as well.

Merc changed from a single 40A voltage regulator to twin 20A VRs. What do you have?

Carbs may have a WMK or WMV number. They can help pinpoint a year as well. A picture of the airbox can help pinpoint it as well.

Is there a part number on the block? You could look it up on the crowleymarine site. Some motors have a silver disc on the top of the block with the serial number. It will help figure out the year of the powerhead.

That’s not a brown stripe Scott. It’s a red and green stripe that’s faded. Also the brown stripe had the brown stripe on the lower of the stripes too. Apologies for the geekery 😂
Would WH28 on the carbs give you any idea

Look again. That's a brown stripe that has been in the sun for 40 years and faded

Would the heads give you any idea, they seem to be somewhere between 52000 thru 0c100860 but I can't pin down the year

Not sure Scott. The brown stripe models have the brown stripe at the bottom. Not the top.
Want to put a wager on that?

Top stripe black, then brown, then orange then yellow

Is this cowl one piece on both sides and a small piece in front or does this have a bottom cowl and 2 half on top

If it a Brown Stripe, then it would be an 85, as the Transom Bracket shown wasn't introduced on the V6s till then. The only other year Brown was used was 1984.
