Intermittent alarm

Greetings. I have a 1986 Johnson 110hp that I recently picked up. I deleted the VRO and mix oil with the gas. I have an alarm that goes off within a minute of starting the motor. It's not a constant beep but it's intermittent. The alarm comes from behind the steering wheel in the helm compartment. Is that going off due to the VRO being bypassed? I replaced the impeller, thermostats and pop-up valves, all of which looked good. Water seems to be circulating fine. I don't believe it's overheating but I'm going to put a thermal tester on it later today to verify that. Hoping the alarm is due to the VRO bypass and I can just disconnect it. Thinking that if it was an overheating alarm it would be constant and not intermittent. Thoughts?

The wires on the VRO are only for the " no oil " alarm.-----Did you pull that plug apart ?----Did you remove the oil tank.?

I pulled the plug apart and removed the oil tank. I ran the boat on muffs today and the alarm went off shortly after starting. I checked the temp of the heads and they were about 82 degrees and the "bubble" water jacket was at 64 degrees; clearly not overheating, and has a good water stream. I'm assuming the alarm is for no oil??
