My model number is J50PLSSM
My VRO unit has bit the dust. It started surging really bad going across the water. I pulled the cover and noticed that gas is leaking out of it. I was planning on replacing the VRO with a fuel pump and mixing my own gas anyway, so now would be the ideal time. Pulling up OEM part numbers, I found that the motor uses pt# 0438557. When I pull that part up on the website that has it listed, it shows the part is for years 1990-96. It also has three nipples when I only need two. I have found other fuel pumps that look like what I need like pt# 0438556 and 0438559. These pumps only have two nipples.
What is the difference in these fuel pumps? If I end up with one that has three nipples, can I just plug the one that is for vaccum?

The pump is to be mounted directly over the PRESSURE pulse port on the side of top cylinder.-----So 2 nipples on the pump.-----Remove the pulse limiter and plug that hole.-----Use the 556 pump with the gasket & 2 screws.

When you say remove the pulse limiter and plug the hole, are you referring to the old hose that went to the VRO pump?
Thank you very much!

The pulse limiter is a safety device for the VRO.-----Not needed for the regular pump!

A big thanks to you guys for chiming in.
It is now running awesome sitting in the driveway. Hopefully I will be able to get it out to a lake this week for a real test.
Here lately in this part of Texas the wind is blowing 35 mph or it is pouring down rain. Texas! Gotta love it....
Thanks again!

FYI for anyone making this crossover... The stainless steel screws to install the 0438556 fuel pump on the engine are #10-24 x 1 3/4" long.
