Good evening,
I have my old '04 Yamaha F225 hp 4-stroke that I'm converting from a 30" shaft to a 25" for a friend that is buying it. I have to change out the mid-section shift rod and the powerhead has to be pulled. While I'm in there I am changing out the oil pump and wanted to provide a list of items that I'm getting, but not sure if ther's anything else you'd recommend since I'm in there. My plan so far will be just lifting the powerhead and replacing the pump/o-rings and powerhead base gasket...
On the list to order:
-Upper casing gasket- 69J-45113-10
-Oil pump assy.- 69J-15312-01
-O-rings (for pump (2)- 93210-25552-00

Is there anything else that I may be missing or you recommend that I service? I hate to wait for 1-1/2 weeks, just to find out that I needed something else. I appreciate any incite..
Just thought of something else..., would it be cheaper to rebuild the pump with the seals, etc rather than buy a new one? Thanks

🙂 Hi, unfortunately waiting a week and a half for a part only to then find you need another is part of the down side of doing it yourself . The oil pump rotors might be less than ideal condition so its hard to guess if your better off with a whole pump rather than a kit . The only way for you ( Im assuming you have not done this job before )to find out for sure what you need is to have a look . While your waiting for parts is a good time to do some preventative maintenance.
I dont know nothing about your motor but I did a quick google ( on a 2004 f225 yamaha powerhead removal ) and there are several videos showing how to remove the powerhead . Have a look ......apparently it aint that hard . 🙂

get a factory manual
That seems to be the response of many.... "get a manual" Thanks! Isn't it the purpose of these fourms for the 'non' to seek help, or seek advice from those who may have walked this path before? I have a manual, SELOC only and does not detail what i would need. I do not have the $$$$$$ professional shop manual.
I was only asking a basic question as to what essential gaskets I'd need.

I dont think a factory (or any other )manual would list parts needed ,they would be more likely to show you how to find and measure re wear/damage if any ....gaskets for every joint you break are an obvious start . Its good that you do have a "book" .
I watch a few different you tube guys doing the same or similar job , some different camera angles and methods . They aint going to turn you into an expert but they will give you some idea of whats ahead .

Agree. I'm fairly sure it is the obvious gaskets that I've listed, but there's usually some hidden o-ring that shows up. I appreciate it
